Fairly damning stuff on today's mail about Moyes and the united players.. Three players sitting in the stand at a game betting on when their manager would be sacked...As Moyes had an argument with the fourth official away to Olympiacos shouts of "send him off..we are better without him " came from the United bench behind Moyes back. Kagawa turning up late for the flight to Munich with a smirk on his face that was pure defiance.. Moyes was out of his depth but the level of disrespect for him from within was staggering.
Giggs no angel either and as united clear out Moyes people unsurprisingly Phil Neville remains. The class of '92 mafia coming into their rightful place ..If a top manager like Van Gaal comes in he will not succeed unless they are all shown the door. If they are not the level of undermining from within will continue, there was a story about when Houllier brought Phil Thompson into the Liverpool set up, Thompson annoyed the players by acting as if was Liverpool FC personified and had a divine right to question the players credibility to wear the shirt..."show me your medals" was the line from him..United will be in the same boat with the class of '92 if they hang around.
More importantly long may their misery continue..
Pieing off Moyes and his boys and keeping Phil Neville smacks of a bit of a stitch-up to me. Tbh I will be delighted if they cram their coaching staff full of these lot, minimal experience and I'm not even remotely convinced that any of them are cut out for it.

Exactly, and it will be as funny as hell. Giggs, Scholes, Butt et al - they all think they have some divine right to be great managers/coaches and the saviours of Man Utd, just because they were the class of '92. Here's hoping it blows up spectacularly
It was a bit pointless sacking Moyes now wasn't it??? Who's idea was it to appoint Giggs as the interim one, who has NO managerial experience? It seems like like a step backwards to me
It probably sounds like I give a shit, but really I hope the fall down an endless pit of doom .

this.
look at the managerial success of Robson, Bruce and Keane. or the lack of....
and Butt and Neville weren't even good players, which was shown as soon as they left united for lesser teams.
the only one i'm currently convinced by is Gary Neville, and Scholes seems to know what's what given by his shrewd assessment of Wenger.
I can't see that Ancelotti or Van Gaal is going to keep Giggs, Neville or Butt on.
if the board enforces Giggs on the new Manager, he's not the humble kind obviously. thats another recipe for disaster.
I dont see the logic of sacking moyes NOW unless you have a permanent manager ready to come in NOW There is less than a month left in the season so would sacking him now make that much difference as opposed to playing out the rest of the season with him ? The virtual trophy is beyond them anyway so after that what panic is on them ? Appointing giggs is not gonna entice the worlds best players to join them thats for sure
With the timing of the sacking their hand was forced by the leak/rumours. They either had to come out and back him (i.e. to continue next season) or sack him. They also couldn't sack him before top 4 was mathematically impossible otherwise he would have been entitled to 5 years+ payout rather than 12 months (if reports are to be believed).

smacks of panic doesn't it.
i don't see why any top manager would leave their current position to work with an ageing, difficult and poor squad - look at Dortmund, Bayern, Real Madrid's, Athletico's squads, way likely to achieve more than United in the next 12 months.
its a catch 22 - you need a top manager to attract top players, but you need top players to attract a top manager.

No you need to have a top club with a generous wage structure and a substantial transfer budget......all of which manure have got.
Personally I cannot believe how premature the obituaries have been written for manure - yes they currently have a poor, aging and disruptive squad but (sadly) we have to recognise that they are a massive club worldwide and appointing the right manager and giving him that bumper transfer chest will see them comfortably in the top 4 again next season
On the other hand if they'd made the decision to sack him why not do it now? Like you say it's not like they have anything left to play for this season and the prospect of another season of Moyes couldn't have been doing wonders for their season ticket and corporate box renewals. I agree that the 12 hour media briefing was bizarre and a total PR own goal.
This way though they can openly sound out a successor before the transfer window opens and not go through the rigmarole of putting in the ground work to sign the players of a manager they've decided to sack.
It was clear to me watching them play away at Olympiakos that the players were trying to get their manager sacked. Watch them turn in a few performances now before the end of the season.

Looking at their fixtures they will pick up 10 or 12 points from their last few games (starting with giving Norwich a dicking next up). Undoubtedly there will be those who get carried away and suggest that they're on the way back up but picking up 0 points or 12 points will not make a jot of difference to the scale of the job in hand.

i don't think its an Obit Augie to suggest that the pickings are slim for the 'right manager' and that 'bumper transfer chest' is going to be bidding against unlimited funds from Chelsea, PSG and City who have an interest in making man u pay as much as possible for as little as possible.
plus, I think its very difficult to rebuild any club in one year. And, they need to be Top 3 to avoid the Virtual trophy play offs in August which is going to delay top top talent signing until they are sure of European football.
i'm just suggesting that they need to rebuild in a very tough environment thats all - and given their financial constraints, they are very short of time with little room for error.
I dunno about you but i don't expect City and the Chavs to be as inconsistent next year as this, we may or may not fall away further but Liverpool will be up there if they keep Suarez, and either way J henry knows if he invests this summer he can keep a competitor out of the top three so i expect him to give Rodgers who he wants this summer, in fact they are probably doing business already as we should be...

They're still the biggest club in the world: be realistic, a top manager would always join United before a team like Dortmund or Athletico - the sheer magnitude of their stature as club attracts them more than anything.
Managing United is among the most high profile job in the world, not to mention they're likely to command a sizable salary.
It doesn't matter if other teams will be better than United for the next 12 months, that's only for the short term. When United get back on track they'll become a dominant force yet again.

i agree a top manager would join United before Athletico and Dortmund 100%. but will they leave those clubs for United ? - different question right now i think.
I think the time for Ferguson to retire was when the team was class, not when they were hanging on.
Uniteds demise is not just 10 months in the making - ferguson didn't strengthen either his first team squad in 2011 or 2012 or his youth system. The signing of RVP and bringing back of Scholes papered over a lot of cracks.
the problem was letting Fergie chose his own retirement date, but Fergie wanted one more title to beat liverpool and when he didn't get it in 2012 he wanted to carry on to 2013.
Same problem as us, their Board gave the Manager too much power. they should of let him retire upstairs in 2011 when they were worthy champions and reached the CL final.
