As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Was in the Pins early on watching Chelsea V Newcastle and we left just prior to Newcastle equalising - I've never heard a noise like it, it was like a bomb going off. Got off the tube at seven sisters and got a text telling me Newcastle were now winning. The atmosphere on the walk to the ground was as vicious and nasty as I've ever known it.
The police in their wisdom had shut the road off where you go into the away end and there was a big build up of supporters on the corner trying to reason with the police that asking Arsenal fans to walk all the way round the stadium to the away end was actually a fairly stupid idea, eventually they saw sense and after a few scuffles (one bloke punched me then tried to run off, only to promptly fall over allowing a few sly kicks whilst he was on the floor)
Atmosphere inside was fantastic, '71, we'll do it again' booming in the concourse as news came through that we only needed a draw.
Our second goal that day remains one of my favourite Arsenal goals ever, the build up, passing, movement is just sublime - 'football from another planet' I think Andy Gray says on commentary.
It was annoying not to win the game, but at the same time, the genuine belief from a lot of their fans that they'd stopped us winning the league when they score the penalty almost made it worth it. The on pitch celebrations were brilliant.
The journey home was eventful, avoiding gangs of filth looking to attack anyone Arsenal, and police setting up random road blocks in places that seemed entirely unsuitable.
Managed to get back in one piece, the celebrations around Highbury went on long into the night.
Magical day..wasn't there but when it was confirmed we only needed a draw it was a done deal. Remember the "Sol" banner in the corner ? I was pissed off when they made it 2-2 and more so when the Sky commentator (Tyler ?) screamed "the unbeaten record is in danger".. The way Spuds and their moronic fans celebrated in hindsight was priceless, never had a moment or a goal, shown how far they were behind us at that time .
I remember Arsenal had agreed not to celebrate on the pitch " if the title was secured on the day. Obviously it was a security issue. But I read TH14 said the reaction of Spuds and their fans to the penalty changed that for the players and they were determined to celebrate it then.
There was a programme on one of the Sky channels a few years later about the London Underground , they had film from that day about the difficulties of a NLD on security etc. A train full of celebrating Gooners was going through a station non stop. The station was full of Spuds, not sure which station but it was priceless to watch the reaction of the Spuds on the platform.
Will we ever have those days again ?
10 years wow. a 1/4 of my life almost since we last won the title.
normally these are happy occasions to remember past victories, but it seems a world away now - Highbury gone, all the stars and legends gone.
In many respects that day was the end of an Era and we didn't know.
I look back at 1979, 1989, 1991, 1994, 1998, 2002 with great pride and joy, but for me 2004 is bittersweet still because of the lost decade after it - i'm guessing the scousers felt the same way about their title win in 1988.

We won the FA cup in 2005 remember so its not a lost decade until we fuck up in this seasons final ! And pool last won the league in 1990.
My memory of that day was spending all afternoon in the twelve pins. We went over to watch the Geordies vs Chavski game , when shearer scored that goal the whole pub collectively sung his name(even though we hated him!). Then when we scored in the first 2 minutes of the spuds game, I have honestly never heard an atmosphere like it in a pub, beers flying everywhere strangers hugging each other. If there was a place to be, that came close to touching the away end at shite hart lane then this was it.
The only crying shame that season was that we didn't win the CL, surely that team of players is probably the best ever not to win the fucker.

you get my point though - neither of knew it was the death knell of an Era.
one of my housemates at the time went to most away games and he was there at shite hart lane that day, he came back unable to speak but with huge grin on his face.
What a day, beautiful weather and the spurs fans being their usual dimwitted selves

Tarnished? Are you having a laugh?
We won the league at their ground AGAIN
If we never win a thing for the rest of my lifetime i wouldnt give a b@lls really - that year, that day, is something 99% of football fans will never have.
We all want us to improve and win - but tarnished? One of the greatest acheivments in modern football? Never
