Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.

Post by Herd »

My worries now are not of the past mistakes he has made but that he doesnt learn from them and thus will make them all over again in the future.

The three key areas of failure are easily identified

On the Pitch
Our style is well known and many have devised effective measures to counter our way of playing.
We dont have a plan B and we dont prepare for what the opposition might do to us .
Zonal marking leaves us venerable at set pieces.
He wont change our style so we cont cant compete for the title.

Squad Size
We have a good 15 but we have the smallest squad in the premiership .
With those that leave this year Sagna,Fabianski,Bendtner,Dijourou for sure and possibly Ryo Myachi and Park too we need more players and quite a few of them, however wenger has been saying he needs only 2/3 players more tops.
Given our embarrasing lack of action in the transfer market in recetn years im not confident we will address the problem.

Medical
We have a serious conditioning problem ,they seem to have acknowledged it but we shall see

His recent press cons have been bizarre !

Ok so I got off my lazy arse and looked it up -

Edu -

After initially planning to join Arsenal in 2000, his transfer was put on hold after it was realized that he was in possession of a fake Portuguese passport. Months later, after qualifying for an European Union (EU) passport (aided by Italian lineage on his father's side), he signed for Arsenal on 16 January 2001 for £6 million

Silvinho -

The Brazilian left-back plays in the Premiership as a Portuguese passport holder and would not qualify for a work permit with his Brazilian passport as he has not played enough internationals for his country.

However, the Ministry of Justice in Lisbon, which holds a register of all Portuguese citizens throughout the world, has no record of the 26-year-old Brazilian. What is more, the passport office in Lisbon has no record of Silvinho, who entered Britain in June 1999 on a Portuguese passport.

Yep, both of em bought off Arfur

do you even know who edu was? a bloke with a dodgy passport but very good player.

then as you probably hadnt chosen us then, i imagine your meant to refer to eduardo....a player i have never heard in any circles referred to as edu by any gooner, most likely because of the aforementoned proper edu and to avoid confusion.

yeah silvinho was flogged sharpish on the quiet to barca just before that portugese passport issue came to light if i remember correctly! it was shame as he was a decnet player and always liked him. had a fine left foot and scored the sort of screamers from outside the box that this current guis e of arsenal simply never score these days. ever. still at least it let the phone fancier into the team.

700 pages :barscarf:

just think in the 6 years that this thread has been going most PL clubs have changed their manager several times over, yet we are STILL stuck with the same one :banghead:

an FA Cup win will be nice BUT it will massively paper over the cracks at the club.

Gilberto I think fell foul of the policy where younger players (in this case Flamini) were prioritised, and possibly it might have just been that Flamini and Wenger had a better rapport.

Losing Edu was painful, but looking at it from the point of view of the time, he never seemed to fully get his mojo back after that bloody injury (I feared similar with Ramsey), and I think the strike force was therefore rejigged around RVP. I'm certain AW was blindsided by RVP walking as soon as he did and in the way he did (I was pretty shocked at the time) - perhaps if he hadn't have been he might have thought differently over Edu.

On the other hand, it's always going to be more of a gamble when it comes to deciding who goes and who stays in a squad reshuffle if you don't have the luxury of a virtually unlimited transfer budget. AW stuck with Ramsey when some fans feared his crocking was permanent, and that's been repaid very well this season. He's also stood by Theo, was right to bring Flamini back when the opportunity presented itself - it isn't all one way by any stretch of the imagination.

Oh! it's an easy mistake to make...I mean how often have we all confused Freddie Ljunberg with Thierry Henry _ I mean they often played in the same team - even side by side...so a natural mistake to make!

As far as I know, Edu left in July 2010 - the reason given was re-working the squad. That left RVP and Theo as our "fast" strikers. RVP left two seasons later (end of 2011-2012), leaving a significant gap in our strike capability. The point I was making was that AW might have thought twice about selling Edu had he known RVP would only stick around for another couple of seasons.

And this is a good thing why? Chelsea recently just spent a significant amount of money to get their old manager back!

You don't know very much at all.

You have got your players muddled up.

Edu was a Brazilian midfield player who left in 2006 on a free transfer ?

Eduardo was a Brazilian naturalised Croatian International striker who suffered a terrible ankle injury and was subsequently sold. (Shaktar Donetsk ) - he scored against us in the Champions League at the Emirates and received a standing ovation from knowledgeable Gooners

Ah - fair enough. Easy mistake to make - I did say I was a bit tardy in the late '90s/early '00s...

Fairly certain Edu left at the end of the 04/05 season - I remember he took the penalty in the 7-0 drubbing of Everton and waved goodbye.

eduardo was late 2000's edu was early to mid 2000's. so late 90's early 2000's tardiness is irrelevant.

game over wum.

I always thought that to be an effective spin doctor, one would first have to know what he's talking about.

This wum clearly isn't a Gooner. A chav or a dipper fan on the wind up perhaps, but definitely not one of us.

You're right, he left at the same time as Vieira and it took us ages to replace either of them. It was a sort of pre-runner to losing Diarra, Flamini and Gilberto in 2008.

Sorry, a year out - I'm now going to fuck off and support that lot down the road.

I blame it on the fact that I had half a shandy once while at sixth form - hard to remember those hazy days.
