The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

No way.

Chelsea are already a certainty to finish in the top 4 - if United don't get adequate players in, they could miss out again.

The less teams competing for top 4, the better: if Wenger doesn't make the necessary signings we could easily drop out.
Agreed. If United miss out on top 4, as discussed in the thread dedicated to them, they could do a Leeds.
That's highly unlikely. Man turf is still a money making and I'm sure there will no shortage of buyers if the club goes up for sale

Don't really buy into this converting CBs into DMs generally. Luiz doesn't have the discipline to play at CB because he'd rather prance round like a show pony. Anybody who lacks the discipline to play there should not be played at DM, which requires even more discipline as there are far more opportunities to get forward.

Regarding him as a creative midfielder it's the same as Song - he might come up with the odd great pass but put him in that role permanently and he'll be embarrassingly short.

So Sport paper in Barca says Fabregas has no intention of joining any English club except Arsenal and then a Manure journo tweets that Fabregas is not a Van Gaal priority

You don't want me but I've decided I never liked you anyway  :(

I have seen him live on lots of occasions this season and he is just what we need in centre mid, attacking or defensive, as he wins possession and moves the ball forward - and he can slot well at centre back. Also, he shoots at goal from outside the box (though I know this is banned at Arsenal). Watch him in Brazil if he gets in the team - £40m isn't so much in football terms these days, for a really top player. I know it is sacrilege to say it but I would take him over Cesc any day...
Agreed 100%

Dont think Moaninho would have sold to us though

Peace

don't see any reason why cesc would go to the mancs. he's already filthy rich and he needs to go somewhere where he will feel appreciated, and have less pressure to put up with. he was the only star in our midfield in 2011 but now we have a much stronger, creative side so it would be the perfect time for him to come, plus we have a 25m first option buy back clause.

If Cesc is available and if he's minded to come back then we should buy him, and I wouldn't particularly care whose nose it puts out of joint.

He may not be a number one priority but if we have £100m to spend ( ) then we can afford to splash and still have enough to strengthen right-back, striker, GK & DM.

Having said all that I expect Arsene to parade our new Bosnian utility player - Ilava Hamandchisandwic - at the end of August and be told 'there was no value in World Cup year market'.

Agreed. Use Cesc in the diamond in a 4 4 2 formation

For David Luiz, see Alex Song.

No discipline whatsoever.

We have enough CM's that go rampaging forward. The only deal regarding Chelsea that we should have hijacked was when they signed Matic. That's the player we need.

Arsenal are to revive their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira.

Arsene Wenger made enquiries about the German international during the January transfer window.

But the 27-year-old had suffered a serious knee injury last October and has only just regained full fitness.

However, club manager Carlo Ancelotti has been impressed enough with his recovery to start Khedira in last night’s Champions League Final against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon.

And Germany coach Joachim Low has been confident enough in Khedira’s fitness to include him in his provisional squad for the World Cup. Wenger is aware that Arsenal have first option on Cesc Fabregas, should new Barcelona manager Luis Enrique decide to let the Spain international leave. But the fee would be in excess of £30million – and Wenger would find Khedira a more attractive financial option.

Khedira has only a year left on his contract at the Bernabeu and would cost only £15m.

Khedira is also a close friend of Mesut Ozil, bought by Wenger for a record £42m in last summer’s transfer window.
