THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

From Pravda.com:
has qualified for the Champions League for 17 consecutive years, a record equalled only by Spanish giants Real Madrid
And that sums up the ambition of our club really. While 'Spanish giants Real Madrid' celebrate winning the competition for the TENTH time, we celebrate simply qualifying for it!

3 more years of the same old crap... yippee...

If you want to laugh/be infuriated by the AKB cult, go here http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27635264 scroll to the bottom and sort the comments by highest rated. All the classics are in there... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Welcome news for Arsenal, excellent manager, unfairly criticised at many points throughout the season and indeed over the last few years.
Can't help but feel that if Wenger didn't get this deal Arsenal would do a United...
FA Cup justice for all the hard work Wenger has put into the Club over the years, looking forward to more trophies under a financially stable club! This is where a faithful board gets you.
Excellent news! He’s been a first class manager and his type of football is a joy to watch.

It is interesting, pretty much every other Arsenal forum/website I've been on today it is nearly the opposite. The WOBs are the ones being shouted down and most people are somewhere between neutral and positive about it. Of course this isn't any kind of proof that one point of view is right or wrong but it is interesting. While other big clubs like Liverpool and the Mancs have one big forum with a melting pot of opinions, in Arsenal world you can choose between a variety of small forums as long as you fit in with the prevailing view of the club.

Personally when I heard the news I didn't really feel much at all. People can believe what they want and they can mention as many flavour-of-the-month names as they like but there is not a queue around the block of managers that would be guaranteed to propel us above City and the Chavs in the league. Wenger has his faults as a manager and there is no defending our baffling tactical approach to big away games (Dortmund aside) but we have definitely progressed this season.

For possibly the first time since 2006 we have a team that you don't expect to have a 3 goal lead before you feel confident of winning. There seems to be a real togetherness in the team and in Mertescielny, Ramsey and Ozil we have a strong spine to build around.

If there is one thing I can't stand it's people who make predictions about the future in football. How many people put their necks on the line at the start of the season and said the mancs would finish 7th and Liverpool a very close 2nd? Although there were promising signs the season before how many predicted Ramsey would become one of our most important players? That could be Wilshere or Gnabry next season or nobody at all, who fucking knows?

I guess my point is that last season was a season to try and build on. While I don't think it would have been the end of the world for the club if he hadn't signed I'm not going to cry into my hotdog either.

Yes, I seem to remember the great football that we played in the 6-0, 6-3 and 5-1 defeats against Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool respectively.... anyway, you are a right WUM, you were a WUM the first time you were here and an even bigger one once you returned!!
Bollocks. I'm a WUM just because i've always stuck with the manager

You all pick out them 3 poor performances far too much you know, clutching straws. CL football, beat the scum 3 times, won the FA cup and played quality i'd say 80% of the season anyway.

The majority on here like you are just pricks that want to whinge about everything.

You can want wenger out by all means, i have no problem with that, each to their own. But at least have respect for our greatest ever manager.

Sweeping statement ! I still reckon Georgie did well with much fewer resources and distinctly average players and obviously Chapman is in with a shout too.

I've never hid anywhere mate. You wobs appear to hide behind a computer, and do fcuk all about your ever so strong beliefs on matchdays. ;)

Sure - 500+ posts you're on here all the time - backing the manager!

If you call writing to Wenger EVERY week asking him the same basic questions as to his continued failure to invest and get in some assistants to coach tactics etc etc etc - then I gues if that's hiding behind a keyboard then you don't know the meaning of hiding - but you DO know the definition of WUm - because that is what you IZ !

WENGER OUT! :barscarf:

Excellent post. Reasoned and well thought out.
But fear you'll be mocked here.
Need to call wenger a 'french c#nt' and you'll soon get a strong following here.....
