Or maybe he just wasn't actually any good at football?
His parents, agents, former managers, How the f**k should I know.

All I do know is, he was supposed to have talent at 14, then at 24 he's washed up. Someone has to have been handlng this kid and they must have been doing it wrongly.

Look at that kid Bojan from Barca, they did genuinely believe he was talented, yet he can't even make the subs bench at Roma, losing out to the forehead.
When he was younger, he looked decent, yet he has ended up declining rapidly. Although in his case looks like he got crushed under the weight of expectation, maybe same thing with Adu.

You created the thread and the title so I thought you had an opinion on it.

Some players simply don't progress though, it might not be anything to do with mismanagement. I haven't heard anything about Adu being mismanaged, certainly he didn't move to a massive club and stay on the bench taking the money whilst stagnating as a footballer, he seems to have been proactively going around europe trying to find a team where he can make an impact.

At 14 there's a hell of a lot of growing up still to do - look at the England U17 sides, a few years older and most of them end up in the lower leagues at best (with a few exceptions obviously). My opinion is that (in addition to FM overrating him!) the USA hadn't been taking football seriously for long so he was one of the first "huge breakthrough" kids they'll have had. He looked (apparently) immensely talented at 14, they'll have expected him to keep progressing when, in reality, it looks like that was about his peak. Can happen to kids of all ages for all sorts of reasons, not all of them are down to being mismanaged or making poor decisions.

I'm an American and I give zero fucks about Freddy Adu. He was hyped by basic US sports media and not any serious football fan as far as I remember.
