The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

By taking Vela does it create a problem for Maureen and Roman. Sort of tit for tat with the Cesc situation.
Sell Vela to Madrid. Lukaku to us.

They turn around with those profits and increase their weekly wage offer to Cesc to an amount that we'll never match?

We still need a quality striker. Really don't mind Vela and Giroud as back ups.

Arsenal have told Real Sociedad they will activate the £3.5million buy-back option on Carlos Vela.
Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has been in London for talks with Arsenal this week in an attempt to buy the Mexico striker but on Tuesday night confirmed: ‘Arsenal have informed us that Vela would be with them next season.’

Finally. I can contribute to this thread.
Cheapskate lying crunt Wenger.
Go get your season tickets lads. This makes up for Sagna, Cesc and Costa.
The uber crunt gets in early this window.

The only surprise this transfer window is that some Gooners STILL think that Wonga will make some decent signings!

Lying, egotistical muppet that he is.......it will be nothing but unknowns and bargain basement signings from Ligue 1 or 2, everyone knows it. Give up the dreams and just enjoy summer, there will be plenty of time to get depressed when the season starts.!!

Buy back Vela for £3.5M

Sell him for £10M market value.

Could be a plan?

1989, mate, that's a bizarre statement. Wenger had an incredible track record with players too, once. By that reckoning the Fat Drunk is going to be a great player for his next club!

But also it doesn't take into consideration that Vela has done well only in Spain. The Spanish league simply does not offer the same challenges for players as the PL. It's one thing to go from one Spanish team to another but a whole different thing to go from a Spanish team to a PL team.

Vela failed miserably in the PL. Ok, he was younger, but from what I've seen of him nowdays the only thing that has changed is the quality and tenaciousness of the defenders that he is now playing against. They are not as good or as physical or as quick to press as the PL equivilent. His touch, movement, and technical ability haven't improved, he simply has more time and space in most games now to do what he wants, whereas in the PL he didn't and, if he comes back, won't. He found his level in Spain. He is not what we should be looking for in a striker.

Say what you want about him, but I think Wenger has too much class to operate in such an exploitative and disrespectful manner; he won't use Vela as a pawn - at least not in the same window.

That would be entirely crass and make a mockery of the transfer market: how would it look if we got Vela's hopes up by bringing him back and then told him he's being sold on in order to make 7 million quid?

It's not like we're hard up for money; we'd look extremely small time and classless.

Nothing new to us to act as a middle man when some clubs do not want to sell directly to each other.

We did the old switcheroo with Clive Allen and Kenny Sansom back in 1980.

And in 1999 there was the strange case of Kaba "Crossbar Challenge" Diawara.

Now, if this is true, that we buy Jackson Martinez, then even Augie will smile.
This is the player I want as our priority.
But so far we are just "linked" with him.

Arsenal will welcome striker Carlos Vela back to the Emirates next season as Real Sociedad's president confirmed the Gunners have expressed their desire to take up a £3.2m buy-back clause on the 25-year-old Mexican

Is this Guy any good,I have only ever read about him and haven't seen enough of him to judge. Didn't exactly stand out in the Europe league latter stages....what type of striker is he?
