The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

vermaelen leaving for united is akin to silvestre going to us. I actually think it's hilarious that they've started their summer business in this manner, he has to build a new defence and he signs someone who even wenger knows is past it. We'll make a couple of signings, they aren't going to be world class and everyone knows it but of course wenger will replace tv5 with someone of equal ability. I like to lambast wenger as much as anyone but I'm not really worried at this moment.
Agree, anyone using this as a stick to beat the manager with is just getting carried away with their hatred for him.

Vermaelen is our captain in name only, Wenger is quite soft with sticking by shit players,he dropped him like a bad habbit, that speaks volumes, he started well but take away the goals he scored and he was always a bit suspect defensively and we are certainly not strengthening a rival, if anything we are stopping them strengthening as they wont be buying someone better than our 3rd choice centre back whos only use in the last 18 months has been to pen the programe notes.

A bit of perspective is seriously needed on this one, theres not many who wanted him anywhere near the side last year so let him go and lets get someone fresh in.

So when Per or Kos get an injury what will the solution be if we let TV go ? :rubchin:

Sagna ? :rubchin: ooops nope too late.

Wenker " we have Carl who can play there too" :banghead: :banghead: he can't even yet play in his first choice position.

Verm for 10m is actually really good business for us, considering there were times the season before last where I thought he would do a Bogarde on us.

I say get rid and get someone younger at CB. We have 2 CB's in their late 20s and one is a slug.

That is way OTT man - I like TV5 and feel sorry for him and understand his need to go, but to compare him to Silvestre goes way beyond offensive and disrespectful. The bottom line, and I argued this on here at the time, is that tv5 and kos cannot work together as a partnership because the balance wasn't right, but either of them with BFG would work - sadly for tv5 he got injured at a bad time so it allowed kos to build up that partnership with mert, but it could just as easy be kos who is out in the cold right now. The guy is tenacious in the tackle and is 100% committed but he needs someone like mertesacker to organise him and instill some defensive/positional discipline in his game.
If he goes to manure I will be very disappointed - not anywhere near the level of cesc joining chavs and not disappointed with the player himself, but disappointed that yet again we are willing to sell to our rivals and are not learning from our mistakes. As I said, I will be disappointed but definitely not shocked

I'd pay Manure to keep Cleverley. I'd rather take Fellaini and I don't want him

Last season I was against signing Luis the cannibal on the grounds that he was a nutter, seriously mentally unstable and I did not want him anywhere near our club...I'd take him now though
Mario is a nutter, SERIOUSLY mentally unstable and normally I'd not want him anywhere near our club either but maybe we should sign him now while we can before we end up really WANTING to sign him next season but can't

I'm confused, are utd trying to scupper the deal by forcing us to take Cleverly or what, is it possible that they are worse transfer negotiators that inspector clueless? :D

when he was at city I said he was one of those players that you love if he plays for your team, as in "he's a nutter but he's our nutter" sort of way...I'm warming to the idea of signing him..things certainly aren't dull when he's about.

Campbell and Balotelli added to our strikeforce next season is a noice thought. Pace, power, skill, goals.

Oh god not Cleverly. Never rated the guy, even when he was getting praised the season before. He doesnt have any exceptional attributes.

Smalling looked inept last season.

Selling him will mean we have NO cover at the back what so ever for Kos N BFG.
We were very lucky last year that neither got injured because we had Zero cover having offloaded Dijourou and pleeeeease don't tell me Sagna could have play there because he cant .
I feel bad for Vermaelen hes a good player and he lost his confidence ,but it didn't help him having to play with a suspect unknown like KOS and a midfield that collapsed and left them exposed time and again .
Selling players to our rivals isn't good business whatever anyone says and if he goes ,we would need about 7 players to get in before the season starts and I don't have any confidence we can get them .
