Ian Wright's Family Held At Knifepoint

Exactly, it's a time when they need his support after a horrifying experience and he's pissing about on tv. To top it off he was going off in The Sun about how if young players refused to play for England they should be made to call the parents of a soldier that has died in Afghanistan and explain why. Fucking buffoon.

I never really understood why people have been giving him grief over the years for what he says but I get it now.

im sure wrighty regardless of the articles he writes has some integrity and wouldnt have flown back out to work without reassurances about his families safety

albeit from the flying squad or his inner circle of friends, and to be honest for all we know his wife could have told him to go back to work?

This ^. Also, he might have been contractually obliged to return.

What a load of Bollocks about the troops ......,if you really love your countryman you should be protesting about the needless death of our soldiers in the hell that the UK have created in Afghanistan along with It's master.
If you truly support OUR troops then you should be petitioning to your MP and trying to bring them home .
Our Troops are not fighting for us nor are they fighting to make us safe .
They are being cruelly used for purposes making money for arms sellers and another sovereign powers world domination !
To draw parallel's with a football team is just jingoism to appeal to the masses who are duped into thinking we are in some just and noble war ,and are about to be embroiled in another mess we left behind in Iraq .

Ian Wright is a media whore and my respect for him as an Arsenal legend diminishes with every passing day !

Herd, you old hippy, you... who knew, huh?!

But seriously I agree with most of your post.

Wrighty is a legend but also a really good example of why most footballers should never ever speak again after they stop playing.

DB fella I'm a pacifist at heart ,and I'l fight anyone who says different  :box:  !

Loved Wrighty as a player and that will never diminish but he has whored himself to anyone for any shilling he can get since he left !

The other stuff about troops makes my blood boil we have been waging war in the middle east for over 20 years and have fucked the place up badly .
We will do it again very soon , and a seemingly endless stream of my countryman will die because they joined the army largely not for adventure but because they couldn't get a job and didn't want to be drug dealers which if you live in the inner cities u will know what I mean !

I know what you mean. My grandad told me something once that stuck with me through my life. He was old IRA (before they became the murdering terrorist bastards that they became). He fought against the British Army in the 1916 rising and the war of independence and against his own countrymen in our vicious civil war that followed. He told me he never hated the British soldiers he fought. He reckoned they were just poor kids from poor families like him, that had joined the army to support their families. They hadn't asked to be sent to Ireland. He reserved his hatred for the rich politicians that start wars at the drop of a hat, that invade other countries, most of them never knowing what it's like to lose a son in war.

One other thing he told me that I thought was very profound was that you cannot truly value and appreciate what peace means until you have experienced war. 8)

I've never understood all this troop stuff. I mean, I respect the job they do and all that - don't think I could do it myself. But they know what they're getting into when they sign up? Some of these claims about poor soldiers risking their lives - well yeah... that's kind of the job. There's no obligation to sign up to the military in this country, so if you're not sure you want to risk your life, I'd recommend you choose another career

I take your point but I suppose it could be looked at from the viewpoint that some may have enlisted out of financial necessity. Also, many might have enlisted with the view that they would be serving in a defensive army and wouldn't be used to invade other sovereign countries?

You should be thankful, people do choose to risk their lives for the country. Otherwise if nobody signed up, we'd choose from a raffle and guess what, your lucky name could be up and you could be dragged off to go kicking and screaming.

Many people who choose to go to the army, don't really have a lot of options in life.

I doubt very much Wrighty would've gone back if he didn't talk it out with his missus first. As he said its all in the police hands, what else is he supposed to do? I don't know wrighty personally I can only comment on what I saw him do on the pitch and he was never the one to hide away. It's a case of everything is being taken care of, so back to work. If his missus told him not to go back then, I doubt he would've done. Surely, it't the scum who did this, taken the opportunity rob him whilst he was away that should be demonised, not wrighty for doing a job he gets paid to do???

Wrighty "Adores" his wife and children...and like any husband/father would do ANYTHING to protect and Look After them...Money just doesn't come into it in such situations...It must have been his wife that said for him to 'go back to work'....

Personally (in such a scenario) I would have stayed with my Family feck the money...But I'm sure they are now more protected than they have ever been.

As some have already said - Wrighty as a Player (and Legend) is forever in my heart - But due to a lack of education or not being fully informed and thinking something through, I guess can and has said some silly things, but anyone can tell he's something of a softie and would not intentionally cause hurt or offence to another....we all fuck up sometimes...but being in the limelight his fuck ups are seen globally.

I just wish he would count to ten before opening his cake hole sometimes... :?
