As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

For me the reason why this world cup has been so good is that the "new" countries have been better than the football aristocracy and have made the whole tournament far more exciting. Oh and I'm pretty sure an African team and the US will win the world cup in the next 20 years.
England are crap.
Agree to a point, well fully re England and the pointless US UK arguement
But far be it to add to a 5 year olds thoughts ( ) but for me much the best thing has been for the first time for many many years in international football the attacks had the upper hand- tippy tappy crap and Italian style clomping defenders are totally out, its all about scarring defenders witless with PACE. Thats probably why weve seen less 40 yard supershots, because crosses have come in after speed down the wings or straight into the centre. Its far more exciting.
For some reason the defences have been pretty poor, maybe due to the pacey attacks
The likes of Wally Ox and Rambo are the future, thank goodness- we all knew that with Henry, Overmars et al, but the Spanish style seems to have diverted everyones attention from that..
In his (dreadful) BBC Sport column Rio Ferdinand seemed extremely proud that the senior players made it as hard as possible for young players to come through at United, particularly in Scholes "kicking the living daylights" out of Paul Pogba on the training pitch every day.
As much as I despair at the seemingly sheltered environment around our players letting Scholes literally kick his way back into the side probably wasn't a wise long-term approach to solving their CM problem.

I read that as him kicking Pogba as a way of toughening him up, apparently he was supposed to say nothing about it so he could earn the "respect" of Jar-Jar Binks and his mates.
In a nutshell it shows everything that is wrong with English football. What is even worse is that he has phrased that in a way that suggests it's completely normal and we should be impressed, good old Scholesy eh? You see this shit up and down the country every week in Sunday league, it's the level of football intellect of my barber writ large. According to him all we needed to win the World Cup was more midfield cloggers to "leave their studs in." Not a single other major footballing nation approaches the game this way or if they do it doesn't become the be-all. Fuck off to the UFC. And as I have to explain to nearly every middle aged man I meet, I literally could not give less of a fuck about how football was in the 70s.
It also confirms what those of us with eyes knew about Paul Scholes from day 1 - he is a massive, massive *word censored*.

I sense you probably get annoyed as me when you see United 'fans' roll out quotes from the likes of Zidane, Messi, Xavi, Pirlo etc about how Paul Scholes is supposedly the greatest player ever to grace the planet? Not only have I never seen footage to corroborate a single one of these quotes, some foreign footballers are actually quite respectful and diplomatic and if an English journalist sticks a microphone under their nose asking what they think of Paul Scholes they will be extremely kind.
Although Ferdinand acknowledges letting Pogba go was a mistake he is obviously defiantly proud about his initiation of sorts. Just trying to put myself in Pogba's position - I'm fairly sure my patience waiting for first-team opportunities would be wearing a hell of a lot thinner if Scholes was then brought out of retirement to trundle around being a flat-track bully on the pitch and a thuggish bully on the training pitch.

Interestingly you may have just struck gold about the the issues. I moan about how it was better in the 70s because every footballer these days goes down like they've been shot by a sniper if someone vaguely waves a leg at them. On the other hand, the 2004 team would not have survived 10 minutes in the 70s. So why don't we agree, bad tackling is not allowed and simulating will be followed up after each and every game by a panel. Cheating that leads to a penalty 10 game ban. Cheating that leads to a sending off 10 game ban. Cheating that leads to a free kick outside the area 5 game ban etc etc...........

That is the most patronising post on here I have ever read and that includes Augies posts , where the fuck do you get off fella
You should manage Arsenal, England and a Worlds best 11
Some of the best footballers the world ever saw were from the 70's and I can only remember the last of those years, laughable kids post
I don't think he's saying there were no great players in the 70s - just that the romanticised view some people have of that era doesn't have much relevance at all to football today. Such as the idea that kicking lumps out of young players is a really effective development technique. Or that brute physicality is by far the best way of handling skilful opposition players. And its ideas like this that will keep British football in the Dark Ages.

I say what I see and the fact is we were left behind decades ago by the rest of the world despite having a massive football structure and shit loads of money in the game. I didn't say there were no good footballers in the 70s just like I didn't say there are no good English footballers today. It's funny that you feel patronized bya post you don't even understand. It's ironic that you can call someone patronising and a child in the same post. Oh, and it's simply moronic that you can't write a sentence without putting a smiley on the end. Is that supposed to make me think you're funny and laidback?

Btw lefty, I am contrary, argumentative, naturally negative/realistic and quite cynical but there is no way that I am patronising
I'm not defending lefty! I just saw a situation developing that I wanted to head off at the pass ( I hate that cliche ), Augie you patronising bastard.

oh! yeah! Peace Out!
After the bridge collapse yesterday, the need for brazil to progress is brought back into the front of our minds - as long as they are still involved, it might (and I stress might) be enough to stave off the uproar/civil unrest/downright rebellion that is coming over working conditions and wages
