The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The cant has the same approach to heading a ball as he does to the transfer windows.
WITH HIS FUCKING EYES CLOSED . CANT.

WENGER OUT

If you ever see a player head the ball in the league with their eyes open, then I'll be stunned. It never happens.

Sakho gets picked ahead of Kos for France. Is Sakho better? Not in a million years.
Varne is though and maybe its a case of Koscienly or Varne next to a tank so that argument is a bit loose.
Before the WC Kos and Varane were the first choice partnership for France. Varane is the consistent pick for Deschamps.
How good is Varane? I've not seen much of him at all but I know he'll be put in the top bracket by many because he plays for Madrid. Had an absolute shocker for the goal against Germany - any defender is capable of making a hash of a clearance or whatever but even at 21 being absolutely bullied by somebody like Hummels (who is hardly a bulldozer) like that is worrying.

I have only put this on here, for one reason alone. If you can't be arsed to read scouse toilet paper, it's this. The victims pay Glen Johnson 110,000 pounds a week.

I cannot decide whether to laugh or just be shocked so

both Kos and BFG have been poor this world cup - both dropped as starters.

neither have adjusted well back to man-to-man marking from zonal. AS NO NATIONAL TEAM PLAYS ZONAL, ARSENE....

yup. fuckwit wonga ruined them :banghead:

It is the understanding of influential Twitter user GeoffArsenal that personal terms have been agreed with Alexis Sanchez. Geoff tweeted the following earlier today:

“Sanchez, Hearing personal terms agreed in principle before the WC, Transfer fee yet to be agreed with Barca but Arsenal are quietly confident”

This deal looks more and more likely all of the time and it is well known that Geoff is fairly reliable when it comes to transfer with Ӧzil and Monreal coming to mind.

Geoff joins a long list of reliable outlets reporting this not to mention Di Marzio.

Evidently, this looks like Arsenal have been working on this deal for a while due to personal terms being agreed before the world cup which shows why he is so keen to join Arsenal.

The Gunners have now made their move and are confident the transfer fee and structure of payments they have proposed to Barca will be accepted by the Spanish giants.

Arsenal are determined they will be able to close the deal, which would be worth around £135,000-a-week to the Chile international.

Let’s hope Arsenal can agree the fee and get this deal done.

Don't have the stats on it but I remember that pretty much every rumour I read from Steve Stammers last year were complete and utter bo**ocks. He is an Arsenal man through and through, even more up the club's Arse-nal than John Cross.

Have you actually watched the games? BFG got dropped because he was hung out to dry against Algeria by his midfielders haring up the pitch and losing the ball. It was a lack of pace and poor tactics that got him dropped, fuck all to do with zonal or man-to-man marking. Deschamps just inexplicably prefers Sakho, it's not that Koscielny has struggled with man-to-man marking.

The converse side of your argument is that under Wenger (regardless of how much of the credit he deserves) those players have built a formidable partnership whereas in two international squads hardly blessed with defensive talent they are regarded as dispensable.

formidable ? hardly - present for all the big losses weren't they - 6-3, 5-1, 6-0, 4-0 etc etc. ?

i've watched nearly every game of the WC - both lose concentration, lose their man or get caught ball watching. one needs to go and we need an replacement upgrade.

i like both players but not together. too similar weaknesses.
