The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I reckon he is almost perfectly suited to what a 'wing forward' should be in a system like ours. I also think - based on what relativity little I've seen of him to be fair - that he could play the CF role effectively for vast majority of games. It is such a demanding role that unless you've got one of the very top strikers in world football you are going to have to sacrifice on something. With Sanchez it's physical presence but this could be offset by his pace, movement and footballing brain. When he has been on one of his shit-hot runs how many headers has Rooney scored despite his lack of real height? For games where we really need a different approach we've got the option of playing Giroud up front.

I still don't think for a minute that signing Sanchez would justify our unwavering dedication to 4-5-1 but I think he would be a good fit for us.
I saw quite a bit of him last season. He regularly filled in for Messi while he was injured. AS is strong, quick, is a brilliant dribbler (maybe he could teach Wally) and scores goals. imo upfront or outwide we'll be e better team with him in the line up.

Huge, huge difference between playing centre forward in spain as opposed to playing centre forward in a physical league such as englands - technique and spain will do the job in spain but in our team he would have to be able to hold the ball up and win headers against big bruising centre halves. Tbh I think that playing him in girouds position (in the current system) would be a massive, massive mistake and on a par with signing kalou  IF we buy sanchez then at least play him in a system and position that will give him a chance to succeed cos otherwise we could be talking about him and ozil being major flops
What successful PL teams play with a big Giroud-type player up front who wins headers etc? Aguero, Negredo, RvP, Suarez, Sturridge, Eto, Torres, etc?
Giroud can take the physical contact but the pace, movement, first touch etc are lacking and he's easy to mark.. First touch, control, movement, passing can be just as effective. I'm sure we'd all like a van Basten, but they're in short supply. Sanchez might not have every quality you want in a striker, but he'd be a big improvement,

F'n fantastic signing if true. His role in the side may not be immediately clear but he is a player of such quality that he will only upgrade the side as a whole. From what I have seen, he is at his most dangerous from wide but have also seen the ability to play as a striker, and would offer more in terms of movement, pace and intelligence than Giroud.

It is also the 'big signing' factor, the show of ambition. With any luck, it won't be the last this summer!

My enthusiasm is curbed until I hear that Walnut to the mousers, Cazorla to Atl Madrid, Vermaelen to Utd, Jenks to anywhere and Campbell to the barcodes is just piffle, oh and that WENGER doesn't want to make Sanchez into a CDM.

I've never rated Hulk before the WC, but I wouldn't mind him at The Arsenal.
