Regarding Ozil, I really don't know what some people watch when looking at a football game. After an admittedly shakey start (and jumping out of two or three 50/50's  ) he was solid last night. Not a box to box match winner, no, but he never has been. His passing was mostly very good, very intelligent, and some of it absolutely class.

I think people need to see him for what he is; a very technically gifted player, but not a worker. He appears lazy, but I'd say that is down to his footballing intelligence - he won't chase pointless causes around the pitch like a headless chicken. He ain't Robbie Savage FFS.  He is what they call an economical player.

I maintain if we signed 2 or 3 other world class players on a similar level as him we would get the best from him week in week out. I always look back to the perceived "improvement" in Bergkamp when he went from playing with Selley, Hartson, McGolderick and Hillier to playing with Vieira, Overmars, Petit and later Henry and Pires. Bergkamp always had the genius but suddenly he had players that could think and play on the same level. Ozil is similar.

DB10 you forgot Paulinho a Denilson with a bit more size. And the scrawny *word censored* Ramires who's game is based around hacking opponents and making dangerous tackles.

Brazil used to have the likes of Zico, Socrates, Dunga, Emerson, Gilberto in these wasters' positions. How the mighty have fallen.

Felt sorry for Julio Cesar last night.

Last time I saw a Brazilian facing this many shots he was jumping a ticket barrier at Stockwell.

I 100% agree with this. All of the Ozil bashing is getting tiresome tbh. The guy is world class and anyone who thinks otherwise can lick my left one :cussing:

Yup! all this Ozil bashing is getting a bit much - just coz he's a miserable bastard and only turns up occasionally - doesn't mean he's not world class and worth £43million!

Big Phil it's all your fault..You had Santos and Denilson available and you ignored them....Imagine Santos' shirt collection if he had been picked.

Serious note..Germany could not score enough for me last night ten or eleven would have been just.. Ozil is subtly brilliant..will not be appreciated for it because he isn't a Scholsey or a Stevie Me..but he is class.

Bang on the money.

Even Dunphy and Giles on RTE nailed it last night. Modern football is all about athletes and coaching systems. The media and coaches want robots, runners and battlers, not technically superb players that can improvise. :|

Agree totally with that 8) People are getting a bit precious about ozil if they think that criticism of ozil is ozil bashing - can a players performance not be analysed without it being perceived as a personal attack on him ? I dont think anybody on here doubts that ozil is world class but it isnt enough to have world class ability in your locker if most of the time you turn in "solid" performances (not especially picking on your phrases DB10 but that one suits this point the best) ? I have yet to meet a Gooner anywhere who would describe barbietov as anything other than lazy so why the difference with ozil ? I know that he was never in ozil's level of class but he was still technically superior to most players and nobody defended his lazyness on the basis of his ability made him exempt from working hard

Personally I would sell him - yes I have real doubts that he can adapt his game to english requirements but that isnt the reason for me. I believe that to get the best out of ozil then we would need to built a team and system around him - for him to shine he would, in my opinion at least, need to be playing behind two strikers or playing off 1 henry/anelka trype of striker and we neither have that nor do we have a manager willing to build a team around the players he has
