You should have added a Poll to this:

3 Options/questions:

1) Can we win the league as we are (with Sanchez)

2) We still need more signings to win the league this season?

3)No

I'm sure there are other options etc...but it would be intereting to see what Gooners think at this stage.

Your wish is my command! Just changed the wording slightly. Vote away, oh and I turned on the ability to change votes, so if we make more signings you can re-vote.

As Baba....sorry Mr Chukwu....said on another thread Sanchez will not stop us from getting the six goal wallopings we've suffered to the likes of Chavski and Citeh. He's a fabulous signing but when two players are overlapping on Gibbs again and the CDM position is still left without a specialist we'll come up short again in those games

Genuinely thrilled to bits about signing Sanchez though (even though he isn't coming :D )

That may be true but it might help us score more than we concede.

Liverpool lost the league by 2 points last year, how many did they score? how many did they concede?

Not a chance :( we wont get anywhere near it as long as le bumhole is in charge, we know what his target is every season. If someone offered me any one of the domestic cups this season id bite their hand off, that is the ceiling of my ambition as long as le bumhole is here.

Cheer up.
sorry but this thread is ridiculous.

we lost 5-1 to Liverpool, 6-3 to City and 6-0 to Chelsea last season.

in attempting to resolve those defensive deficencies we have sold our long standing RB who will probably be replaced by the Newcastle RB and sold all our back up goalkeepers.

can someone tell me how we are expected to improve our defensive displays next season??
You have naturally picked 3 results over a 38 games season, yes they were bad hidings but over the other 35 games the defensive record was not as bad as those 3 results would suggest.

Can any of the statos breakdown the season in comparison with the rest of the top teams including Liverpool who could have won the league on the last day.

Edit.

City conceded 37 and won the league, we conceded 41 and finished 4th, Chelsea conceded 27 and finished 3rd, Liverpool 50 and almost won it.

Not saying your concerns are wrong but if you are basing your whole view on 3 hidings than its a little lazy if the defence held up on the whole in the other 35 games.

Yaya Toure is likely leaving, massive blow.

Additionally, Aguero spends most of his time on the sideline.

I might add that despite us making a signing (we usually do so on deadline day), the transfer window is still open for nearly two months - plenty of time for us to make improvements.

And if they get the best out of that squad realistically they won't be challenged. Especially with their home form and the Etihad seemingly inheriting Old Trafford's Tummy Tickler label.

But they haven't done that over the course of a season yet. They should have cantered to the title given the competition last season, but they somehow contrived to only take 4 points from their first 6 away games which were fairly kind in truth. Even when they came good at the end of last season they were then pretty unimpressive at our place when they should have been sweeping us aside, and were beaten at Anfield to leave them relying on other teams.

If they lose Toure it will be a monumental blow for them, in any event he is going to miss a month with the ACN although the bloke is an absolute weapon and seems to be able to play 90 minutes every game with no problem. If Aguero picks up injuries again they will haul Dzeko or Negredo from the reserves and expect him to deputise effectively, Silva for me hasn't hit the heights he did first half a season and they are a Kompany injury away from a defensive crisis.

They're still clear favourites imo with the overall quality in their squad and their envious home record, but certainly not unbeatable.

We won't win it as things stand, but the double whammy of Sanchez in (he isn't coming) and Suarez out for the dippers should be enough of a swing in our favour to finish above them.

Still short of a defensive midfielder, a goalkeeper and probably a centre back and it looks like we'll have run out of transfer budget by the time we get to the last two of those.

Still think Liverpool will struggle this year. Despite their attractive expansive style last season the real difference for them was their consistency - were it not for struggling away first half of the season they'd have won it. Chuck in 6 midweek European games with some travelling guaranteed and having to play a full-strength side before Christmas.

Obviously losing Suarez is a blow of immense proportions, it's not just a case of replacing his goals because his all-round contribution was phenomenal and he made the system work. Sturridge's game is going to suffer massively from not having Suarez to play up front with, he had a great season last year but I'm not convinced he's anything like good enough to lead the line for a PL side with the options alongside him that they have.

I also expect United to be back around the top 4 this year and without doubt we have strengthened with the addition of Sanchez (even if we don't add more) and the likes of Walcott, Ramsey and Ozil hopefully available now. The PL is not at the level it was in the second half of the last decade but equally it's likely that a good team will be missing out on CL football, whereas in the past average sides like Spurs have been right in the mix for top 4.

Saying that I laughed off Liverpool at basically every point last season and although nobody foresaw United slipping so much I honestly thought they would be in the race right at the death. I can just see their play unravelling a bit without Suarez and the added fixture congestion, pressure and adapted tactics they will come up against make cementing a top 4 place a realistic (if very boring) goal for them.

Liverpool and Rodgers had the biggest advantage of any team last year in that there was no expectation for then to do what they did, this season is a different ballgame, they had a great season and will expect it again, losing Suarez is a game changer as he is the one player that gave them the fear factor where they could beat teams before even getting on the pitch as he was unplayable last season.

You cant dress up his depature and they will struggle now, lets see how good Rodgers is now because he wasnt in complete favour in his first season there.

Their signings are not amazing ane jow he has a job to keep everyone happy, this season is going to be completely different and the pressure will be on where last season they had very little with one game a week to think about.
