The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Mail says United are in talks over Vidal, wouldn't it be nice if Wenger flexed this new financial muscle and nicked him from them.

If ever there was a time to turn the tables on them it would be now while they are out of the CL.

^ Vidal is not a DM though - which is what we vitally need.

I'd be ecstatic if we bought him as he's world class but he doesn't fulfill our necessary requirements. Schneiderlin would make us a much more effective, functional team despite being significantly less glamorous a signing.

I agree, a dm is essential now, we can't have another year of flogging Arteta for 50 games

Anyone else have a sneaky feeling that one of Cazorla or Podolski could be shipped out? Probably Cazorla since he's the one who has made noises although we definitely need to get full value for him. If Campbell is coming in then we're a bit overloaded in the forward positions.

Thing is Arsenal used him (Carzola) this week in the New Kit Promo's not just the pictures/Vids etc - But the live appearance, also maybe he is having or has had 2nd thoughts with the signing of Sanchez, which shows a statement of intent on Wenger's part - Providing of course he follows up that signing with another World Class signing, not just Debuchy/Remy who although good are not World Class.

oh and this......

You'd think so, obviously adding Sanchez who can play in all 3 forward positions and thinking how long Walcott, Podolski and Chamberlain spent on the sideline last year as well as Wenger's willingness to even push the likes of Ozil or Wilshere out wide left if needs be we are a bit over-stocked.

Means nothing. Cazorla, Arteta, and Giroud were all purposely chosen for the promo as they're already sponsored by Puma.

If Pod was going they'd have held off giving Sanchez a squad number so he could take the no. 9 I reckon. Hard to see another side match Podolski's 100 grand a week wages anyway.

Schneiderlin is the cheap 2nd rate option and personally I think wanyama is the better of the 2 Southampton DMs anyway
Disagree, Schneiderlin is class imo. Was outstanding against us home and away last season. Terrific DM.

Agree. Wanyama is a Song, Frimpong player. Physically impressive but doesn't seem to have it between the ears. I think Scgneiderlin would be a big upgrade on the current vinatge Arteta. He looks like a smart, talented player and he's got good international experience now.

For once we seem to be on the pace with the other PL contenders. Shaw and Herrera are good players but don't go anywhere close to addressing Manure's problems, the Victims have a massive hole to fill, Citeh don't look any better than last year. The Chavs have done well and do look stronger than last year.

I'm sure there's more to come from all the teams, but it does look like, for once, we'll be up there competing. I hope AW can build on the positive vibes around the club to bring another top name in.
