The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Don't think you can really dress it up as a title challenge if you are out of the running with 30 games gone. Gotta last til at least mid-April to credibly pretend to get near winning it.

Yeah agree, all it shows is that for those 30 games it wasn't a case of fighting with Spurs, United or Everton for 4th like previous years, wasn't quite a title challange more a case of pace setting or trying to stay infront but that still says we were at the right end if the table for most of it, everyone knew what had to be done in Jan to turn it into a challange.

Last year will be looked back on as what if, what if Walcott never got injured in the game he finally got to play upfront (and looked great) what if Ramsey never got injured in player of the year form or what of Wenger spent in Jan, we might well have hung in for longer which might have shown that the team is not really that far off.

Not only are they 'what ifs', they are unrealistic what ifs. The only time Wenger spends in January is if top 4 is at risk, and it's not realistic to expect the whole squad to stay fit even if you don't run players into the ground like we do.

For what its worth I don't think the squad is far off being able to win the league at all. As much as I'd love to see some more quality players brought in people seem to have this idea that you need 11 class players to win the league which is garbage looking at some of the players that have appeared regularly for the title-winners last two seasons. We have a potentially very solid and consistent defence, and attacking ability in depth. But a complete lack of tactical versatility and this inferiority complex we clearly harbour? Not going to be serious challengers until we overcome that.

for me, a huge part of next season relies on our capability to improve our medical team/training methods. If we suffer the same times without key players, we don't have a chance.

We've already taken steps to do so by bringing in Shad Forsythe - he's been the fitness coach of the German national team for a decade.

THIS. If you let loose last season's med team on the Madrid squad, I doubt they'd muster much of a challenge to anything.

Hopefully changes have been made.

How embarrassing! There I was thinking we hated them, not thinking they'd win the league - delete that thread I would

Marca say Arsenal won't take no for an answer on Atletico's Manquillo and want a meeting with the club.

Should change this thread to the whingeing thread imo.

I am not going to focus on any individual posts but if you look back to last summer, it took 60,000 gooners going nuts at Wenger during the first home game to stir the club into action.

We have already bought class in Sanchez, have a bit of patience and lets see who else comes in.

Just a gentle reminder, we did actually win something last season!

Our targets or wenker/clubs targets ? I mean my targets include martinez whilst the papers have us linked with khedira and bender, but maybe none of these are the targets that le cock and the club are chasing so they might end up getting the player that they have coveted all along but the rest of us would be left underwhelmed. Has there ever been a summer where le cock has made two massive purchases ? Maybe there has but it's sunday morning and I cant think of one, which leads me to suspect that the chances of us making another star signing are slim
