The Summer 2014 TRANSFER THREAD
Re: SUMMER 2014 TRANSFER THREAD
My point is so many resources spent developing the academy plays [not to mention the transfer duds Cygan,Vivas,Stepanovs et al] how can miss Luiz S when he was developing at Gronigen? Eventually Ajax got him for 7.5m.The 30000 players dossier missed him?

Wenger can't see into the future; as great at spotting talent as he is, it's impossible to suss out all the future world class players: some show promise and never develop, while other fly under the radar and burst onto the scene out of nowhere.Blade wrote:My point is so many resources spent developing the academy plays [not to mention the transfer duds Cygan,Vivas,Stepanovs et al] how can miss Luiz S when he was developing at Gronigen? Like I said, Wenger didn't sign Suarez - but then neither did the other 10,000+ managers in the world.
That would be tantamount to me saying why didn't Alex Ferguson sign Thierry Henry?

Most gooners (who where there) wouldn't give your opinions the time of day. Why don't you turn up on match day and spout this drivel, it's easy to talk bollocks on a forum.

Superfan alert. If you have to resort to insulting me from the off, then you argument dies a tragic early death.
My dear boy/girl I go to the games and only gave up going to home games when I got priced out of it and when I could afford it decided the pub was a good place to watch as paying extortionate amounts for certain players was beyond the pale.
I still go away to games very regularly even with 3 children under 7,so it's not a picnic. I travel the length and breadth of this country to watch the Arsenal because I live in hope as a true supporter...we can't all be superfans.
I have the long term interest of this club at heart and it is not being served properly by a manager who runs it like his own personal fiefdom and refuses to move with the times.
The club have cleverly surrounded themselves especially at home games with people who now accept, rather than wanting what we are capable of. We won the Fa cup it was brilliant but how in God's name has it helped us progress.
We still dither in the market like we are a poor club and lose signings or pull out after putting all our eggs in one basket.
By the way, suddenly signing expensive players is not a sign of the manager moving with the times,it's what we have been able to do for the last 2-3yrs.
Yes everyone at the game loved the result and it was the result and particularly how Rambo redeemed our season but I'm sure all those there at 2-0 down started to wonder why we STILL can't do basic defending as a team. Want to take a guess at whose fault that is.
Guess what,he's still here and will be for 3yrs minimum. We will not win the league under his management. Still happy. Yes, I expect you are because we can now spend big.
Ooh lock up your goalies lower half teams, big spending, midget ridden, striker-light Arsenal are coming. The rest of you in the league, breathe easy. You can watch them huff and puff for 60mins and counterattack... Bang you've scored. Or you can try the other well worn trick again watch them huff and puff for 60mins, win a quick corner....bang you've got a goal. Then just stick 10 behind the ball and Bob's your uncle...if you're really lucky they'll be so gung Ho,counterattack... Bang 2-0.
Still having fun are we?
Re: SUMMER 2014 TRANSFER THREAD
Topgoon i agree with you 100%.
In the pass we signed players such as Terry Mancini,Pat Howard,Brian Talbot to be competitive. And atleast they gave 110% on the pitch.
Guess what we are going into the new season with out addressing the main deficiencies. He is puttin all his eggs in the Diaby basket until he gets crocked in Sept.
So same midfield which gave us:[All 12:30pm kick off.]
0:6
1:5
3:6
"The score dosen't reflect our performance"
"Barca doesn't have a holding DM"
"We played with the handbrake" [so why don't you release the F*****ing handbrake then!}

Re: SUMMER 2014 TRANSFER THREAD
Might feel a bit sorry from the point of view that he was signed and has probably acquitted himself as well as could have been expected given his ability, and it's just not enough.silus wrote:Am I the only person that feels sorry for Jenkinson? I really thought he had a chance of making it (with a bit of work)...the main reason I was happy with Debuchy signing was having an experienced rb for a couple of seasons then Jenks taking over.
Don't know much about chambers?and he may be a great signing, but can't help feeling sorry for Jenkinson.. seeing 2 players signed in your position is a bit of a kick in the bollocks for the lad.
But tbh he's had an absolute dream 3 years that somebody of his talent couldn't realistically expect to experience and been in the matchday squad for Arsenal winning the FA Cup. I'd say that's a pretty fucking good deal and he'll probably acknowledge that if this does spell the end of him at Arsenal.

A bit of an exageration there buddy - dont let a few great signings mask the tons of shite ones he has made. Great suggests better than average and that isn't the case here

Give me Mesut Özil or Alexis Sánchez over them any day.Blade wrote:In the pass we signed players such as Terry Mancini,Pat Howard,Brian Talbot to be competitive. And atleast they gave 110% on the pitch.

They won't do much if no-one is battling for/winning the ball for them!!Give me Mesut Özil or Alexis Sánchez over them any day.
It's called a TEAM game, you need a mix of players with different qualities and strengths. Wonga wants every single player to be small, technical and nippy. Epic fail!

Let's sign Kevin Nolan and Jonathan Walters then - they'd give 110% and we'd finish in midtable.donaldo wrote:No good at Chelsea Liverpool City and Everton when they are raping us1989 wrote:Give me Mesut Özil or Alexis Sánchez over them any day.Blade wrote:In the pass we signed players such as Terry Mancini,Pat Howard,Brian Talbot to be competitive. And atleast they gave 110% on the pitch.

Our accademy record is appalling but then I could probably say the same about Chelsea. I think a lot our young talents would have developed better if there was an Arsenal B in the championship.Blade wrote:My point is so many resources spent developing the academy plays [not to mention the transfer duds Cygan,Vivas,Stepanovs et al] how can miss Luiz S when he was developing at Gronigen? Re: SUMMER 2014 TRANSFER THREAD
Personally, I feel we're finally moving in the right direction. God knows it's taken long enough! Since 2008 we've all been crying out for 1st team strengthening, and it's finally happening. Yes we need some cohones in midfield, but to mention Pat Howard and Terry Mancini FFS! Ozil and Sanchez will be top drawer for us this season. I still have issues with Wenger, and think he should have gone two years ago, but I'm prepared to look at this season with some optimism. This place can get seriously depressing at times!
