Calum Chambers is a Gooner, Welcome to the Arsenal

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Who are we going to call "Chambo"? Didn't I see the mods here were going to ban anyone calling the Ox "Chambo"? Can we call Chambo "Chambo" without fear of expulsion???

Have we actually spent £16m on him? Absolute madness if so.

A bit more reasonable but still a lot of money for a player in a position which is usually pretty cheap to fill (full back). Even if he will become a DM, that's at least £11m for someone who's played 24 times at senior level.

Who needs the annoyance of checking this website to see two people who have never met each other having a needless argument about something that has not even happened!

Contrary to popular rumour I have only ever banned one person, that was a troll from another club.

But if this nonsense continues it goes against the guidelines set down by the website's owner and the mods will just have to start banning people, for a week at first, then for good.

Did someone not suggest that people who write their posts (as opposed to highlights bits of previous posts) in non black colours were going to be banned ? :rubchin:

I for one welcome our new extremely expensive and inexperienced back up right back centre back defensive midfield!!!

No, seriously I'd never fucking hear of him till a week ago, but then I'm not a talent scout. Bloody expensive though for a new talent. These days you've got to pay 15million just to get someone your Average Fan has even heard of!

Pleased that Wenger has stopped treating the club's money like his own, although I do question the wisdom of spending £16m on a right back who probably won't be first XI if we head into the season with patchwork DM options.

Hope the lad does well, haven't seen much of him at all myself so can't comment on his ability and suitability to various positions but obviously has a lot of promise. And although quality and success are the only things that really matter it is nice to have a core of British players.

So we have spent nearly £30 million on the RB position this summer yet we still don't have a defensive midfielder or out and out striker

We've signed a versatile defensive player. He isn't just a right back.

And a DM may be on the way, all indicators point that Wenger is looking at that area and there is still a month to go. I know people like early signings, but sometimes it's a game of chess and things happen quickly and suddenly ala Ozil. We need one yes, but don't moan yet until we haven't actually got one.

16 million is not a lot when you realise he is a versatile defender who provides much needed depth and will probably be a first team player in 3 years. We've desperately needed defensive youth too, Mert and Debuchy are both 29, Koscielny, Verm and Monreal are all 28. I'd rather have someone young who will be a quality player in a few years than splurge another 8 million on a Squillaci, Cygan or other sub-standard players who is happy to sit on the bench
