Calum Chambers is a Gooner, Welcome to the Arsenal

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Half the price of Luke shaw and more versatile, hope he does well. Debuchy aside, I'm actually pretty happy with our acquisitions this summer so far.

Thought this was worth returning to because he didn't look like a 19 yr old debuting in his new team in a role at CB that he only plays for his country.

Calum's departure from the Saints had generated more anger than I expected from the Saints fans and explayers with some like Mick Channon having a go at the players.
It seemed like just usual anti-Arsenal cr*p but the gist of it is that most think he will be an England senior player before time and he is very level headed with a desire to succeed.

It's early days and thanks to our manager's refusal to buy someone to protect them he will have off days but I am optimistic. Mention for Miquel as well, never really rated him before but in the last couple of pre-seasons he has looked a decent player to have in the squad. He certainly looks like he has beefed up so shouldn't be easily bullied any more.

I'm guessing he means due to Wenger not getting a proper DM ( yet...) that he will be exposed when he plays CB and made to look all kinds of silly when the top teams come to town

Or possibly that he will end up getting chucked in at the deep end, like being thrown in at CB at Stamford Bridge or something because we haven't got adequate cover for injuries.

Big hopes for this guy but personally I find it unrealistic to suggest he can provide a viable option as CB cover for us this season. Maybe for Carling Cup or dead rubber CL games but not in the league.

With decent protection I think he can provide cover. Not first choice but cover for when we start to pick up the inevitable injuries. Till then he can be 1st choice in the C1 cup.

And that is the relevant point - Miguel has looked good in pre season meaningless games but when the serious action starts he wasn't considered good enough to get game time with Leicester in the championship  People should be aware of that point before they go off w*nking themselves silly over le postman and campbell

I remember in the dark days of winter 2011/12 when Miquel was employed at left-back at Swansea, I think Djourou at right-back too. Poor fucker was like Bambi on Ice.

Like what I've seen of this kid. Seems to have a good sense of where danger is coming from and thus positions himself appropriately. :barscarf:

As for Miquel, although he offered a threat from our own set-pieces, I thought he got turned and out-muscled way too easily on a couple of occasions when defending and I haven't seen much progress in him. Desperately needs to play regular games out on loan to stand any chance of being good enough for us.

Chambers has got future England captain written all over him.

Can't wait to see him pocket City's strikers next weekend.

Are you worried people won't read your posts if they don't contain outlandish statements?
