Sky TV and free Sat 16th

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Sky TV and free Sat 16th

Post by supergeorgegraham »

I dont know about you guys but I feel ripped off. Why has BT Sports got the Charity Shield game. We pay enough money for Sky Sports and they seem to be trying to make people sign up to BT Sports by losing some of the big games. Its a rip off.

I think the eu rules state that no company can have a monopoly in any area thus the tv deal gets split now :x

Got bt last year cos my kids liked the nba but they didn't watch it so it was a waste of money despite many AFC games on it. When we cancelled it bt/setanta tried to argue that we owed them money which we disputed and refused to pay - they told us that if we ever reconnected we would have to pay it which is a *word censored* cos they are now doing a €1 for a first month trial run over here and am tempted to get it for tomorrows game. Will probably stick to my guns and refuse to take up the deal (mainly cos I cannot stand the thought of listening to Michael owen for even 1 more game  ) but it will piss me off cos I would like to see tomorrows game - to all intensive purposes it is a friendly/pre season game, but it will be a step up in competitive action and I want to see our new players and how they fare. I do watch games online but most of the time it is not worth the hassle to watch a game with a grainy picture and with pop ups constantly showing up on my screen    :cussing: :cussing:

Definitely agree. Sky is losing coverage left, right and centre - including the Community Shield and Emirates Cup - yet is somehow actually putting prices up at the start of September! And next season BT will be showing Champions League, and they seem to have loads of PL games these days too. I'm not too sure what the EU's 'fair play' laws are, but I do know that Sky is charging me more for less coverage, which is pretty risky business. I'm tempted to call up and haggle, or just quit Sky altogether and subscribe to BT Sport only. Less games overall, but £12 is a little easier to swallow than £53 or whatever the fuck it is.

i wonder how many people have fallen for the catch of their 2 years free broadband deal?

"Activate Sky Sports 5 and get 2 years free broadband" the small print says "18 month contract agreement"

Sky Sports 5 - Your new home of European football including the UEFA Champions League.

In 12 months time - BT Sport - Your new home of the UEFA Champions League

Oh shit, I'm stuck with fucking Sky in an 18 month contract so cant switch to BT Broadband and get BT Sport for free!!

Whats funny is Sky Sports 5 will be included in the Sky Sports package, no need to do anything, it will appear when they change the service with Sky Sports HQ etc, but they are fooling people by saying you have to activate it but look at the "great" deal you get with it

Ring up sky tell them you are leaving and watch all these miraculous discounts appear out of thin air with you being a "loyal customer".

I do it once a year and save between £60 and £120 quid depending on how generous they feel.

Do you threaten to cancel everything, or just the sports package?

I ask to speak to the disconnections team, I have sky tv but I don't think that matters if you are out of contract for broadband etc. Then you gotta play poker with them, say something like "I really like sky tv/broadband" but ive seen offers elsewhere (eg free broadband with BT for taking out sky sports etc etc ), Ideally I would like to stay, is there anything that you can offer to help with my budgets which are tight at the moment for what is a luxury".

Wait for a deal, if they say ok we'll disconnect you say you need to think about it. I have never had this happen to me.

Read this forum, it should be the bible for anyone who isn't happy with what they pay for TV/broadband. The passive customers always pay more. Ive saved hundreds over the last 5 years, not far off the amount of a holiday now I would think.

As I have fibre optic broadband I dont bother with BT and stream all their games through wiziwig with no lag.

Cancelled Sky few weeks ago. Sick of the prices they charge. Didn't offer me any good deals to stay with them so fuck them. I get BT sport free cos I have their broadband and I watch all other games I want on wiziwig without any probs. more people need to fuck sky off n maybe they will hand out better deals. New customers get great offers. Loyal existing customers get fuck all.
