As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I missed our Game - who was to blame for the Falcao goal ? i understand someone left him ? - zonal marking again ?
As defending set pieces go it was chaos. 3 players at the back post dropped before the free-kick was taken, the 3 players towards the front stood still even after it was taken. It was a fairly dangerous position and a good ball but Falcao had so much space, any cross in that direction would have found him on his own.
Personally I don't really want to see our CBs rotated if everything's going fine.

but it hasn't been - while i like both Per and Kos individually, they don't seem to work together well. whether that is Wonga's fault for not protecting them or persisting with zonal marking, but too many times one of them goes missing.
I don't think it was a coincidence that both were dropped by their respective teams in the WC after poor games.
some competition for them to up their focus and effort might not be a bad thing.

Personally I thought when kos got dropped he was the French best player against Nigeria was very surprised. He got benched

Are you serious in that you dont think they work well together?
Their partnership has to be the stand out feature of our team innthe last 12 -18 months.

All well and good rotating experienced centre backs in a team of mentally and physically tough players, but to rotate a kid into a defence that is frequently exposed by it's midfield and into a team that is mentally brittle, does not sound like a good idea to me

.
So a centre back partnership that went unbeaten forTWO YEARS when they both played 90 mins until early this year doesn't work well together?
For the first time in recent years we have two fantastic centre backs who work very well. A mix of a tall lump and a quick/nimble is rather ideal. Yes there are better centre backs but to say they don't work well together is utterly ridiculous.
Lucky not to cost us a goal with his awful play getting dragged out of position and then skinned by Dzeko on the touchline.
Given the circumstances a touch of the 'rabbit in the headlights' was to be expected though and I thought he grew into the game admirably.
I'm slightly worried that he may be spread a bit thin and end up as 'cover' for too many positions over the next few seasons, but if we play it right he could get the perfect level of exposure in a few different positions in different competitions and come 21 he will already be an accomplished player with a place nailed down either at CB or RB for the next decade.

He'll be a CB where his reading of the game will be best utilized - also, he's too slow and cumbersome to be a fullback imo; pacy wingers would give him hell and he wouldn't thrive making overlapping runs.
Matt Le Tis was writing for Sky the other day and said he has all the attributes to be top draw. Said he thought Arsenal had the better of the two between Shaw and Chambers for a far better price.

I know it's early days and the doom mongers will say "yeah but how will he do against the chav/citeh/etc" but I also have been pleasantly encouraged by what I've seen so far. He's young with a lot to learn, but I'd take him ahead of Shaw and deffo ahead of any CH at Manure at the moment!
