As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Good lord man. One minor (FA) and one for winning a friendly.
FA CUP........Minor trophy?
Fuck me, you're gonna be hard to please
Can somebody remind me if the FA Cup is considered to be one of the most prestigeous trophies in football.
Not really Spuddy. It (FA Cup) was always my favourite trophy as it looked much nicer than the old 1st division trophy.
Let's be honest though, it has been diminished by the fact that winning it brings in less revenue than gate receipts and prize money from winning one home tie in the glorified European Super League. Also, if we're honest, by the major clubs (and I include us in this) obvious disdain for the extra matches they have to play.
The old school romantic football fan in me will always want to win it but the club probably sees it as an inconvenience. Last year was different as it had been so bloody long since we won anything.
People trying to diminish the FA Cup are the same people who have caused the diminishing of the FA Cup. Stop slagging it off and maybe its prestige will be returned a little.

Probably a little more to do with United pulling out in 2000 and since then teams regularly fielding weakened sides. We rested players every single stage until the final last year - including fielding Yaya Sanogo in an FA Cup semi-final. The FA Cup is just not financially worth anywhere near as much to the club as CL qualification and we have made our priorities clear as every year we have laboured to an FA Cup exit with understrength sides in order to prioritise finishing 4th. Don't blame the fans for that.

yup. and inadvertently put out our best side - one with pace and width.
its the likes of Wonga and Arsenal that have denigrated the FAC, not the loyal fans.
It is ironic that it actually saved his career in the end. had we lost to Wigan, his tenure was over imho.
Winning the FAC by accident hasn't won me over one bit, the signings have a little but i need to see preparation and tactical awareness this year. if not, the signings mean nothing - we become the 1980's entertainers again - Woodcock, Mariner, Nicholas etc etc who would win 4-0 at home against Villa/Forest etc then get stuffed 2-0 at Watford or Oldham.
Whilst football has changed irreversibly from the times in the stone-age when I was going everywhere , the 3rd round of the FA Cup was one of the best days of the season ,when the spine tingled as you were drawn away to Whatever FC .
It guaranteed a mass turnout no matter who or where it was which as any of you who went in the 70's was a rarity for league games !
We were shit in the league and the Cup from until we made 3 Cup finals in a row from 77, and a league cup semi against Liverpool in 78 .
Cup matches brought everyone out ,City away in 1978 Qtr final saw 5 specials from London and the Semi 7 !
