A win is a win.

First time we have won a season opener since 2010.
Ah yeah the cracking 1-1 win at Anfield :barscarf:

It was the 6-1 drubbing at Everton in 2009.

Maybe I'm just being impatient but Jesus how frustrating was some of our play today? Sanogo for me just doesn't appear to have the quality we require. I'll be amazed if he manages over 5 goals this season. Alexis also slightly frustrating today, but I won't be drawn into criticising him just yet, as the guy is clearly class.

However very impressed with Chambers. Looks to be a cracking prospect. Also dare I say it but I was impressed with Monreal when he came on? Linked up well with the Ox and Alexis.

Great atmosphere from block 6 today might I add :barscarf:

It doesn't exactly bode well for the season though does it? Not sure how anyone could be pleased with today's performance

Theo, BFG, Özil and possibly new signings to come in to this team. Alexis yet to fully settle in as well.

All that matters at this stage is the three points, the performance was poor and most of our team played like they were complete strangers but it's still a better start than last season. I can only assume Sanogoals is playing as a result of the involvement of the make a wish foundation in some way, he is to football what Hitler was to diplomacy, Alexis will be a great players once he settles in but that could take a while, needs to work on his crossing in the meantime, Chambers and Debuchey looked solid and composed in possession and the latter has a good cross on him, Santi was strangely out of sorts probably as a result of being marooned on the wing but his passing was awful and I thought he should have been hauled off after his yellow card.
Sadly we still seem to be gifting soft goals from set pieces, I wonder is there any chance of this being sorted out, maybe a start would be not marking a monster centre half with a Chilean hobbit, just a thought Arsene.
The performances will improve with the return of ze Germans so it's onwards and upwards from here I hope

pros - Kos, Debuchy, Chambers, Monreal. Ramsay. Giroud.

cons - jack, sanogo, zonal marking, poor team selection and tactics.

Sanchez, linked up with monreal and giroud well. crossing was pants.

santi - mixed game, couldn't link with ox.

we got lucky. but Everton with Barkley out should beat us if wenger insists on that starting 11.

Wenger Out !

We should have an almost full strength squad for the Everton game, the only absentee will be Theo.

Another plus side of the game is Palace didn't concede from a set piece for 26 games on the trot and we scored 2 goals from set pieces in one game

Still better buck up our ideas in 3 days. :(

cheer up guys, Sonogo wasn't great but at least we didn't have Bendtner coming off the bench!

and when Gibbs gets back from his injury it'll be like a new signing!

I know loads of you think that Sanchez will be a great player when he settles in but I'm not so sure - yes he is a talented player and he could be a prolific goalscorer for us, but that won't happen playing where he is now. I know that some will trot out the argument that he played in that position in barca but this is a different situation imo - for starters he played in a team of quality players who were all capable of playing him in, but secondly he wasn't expected to be a key player for barca but he will be expected to be key for us and that will be factored in when people judge him. Players like him and ozil were support players in their previous teams, whilst at AFC they are expected to be our main players and this is something that ozil has struggled to deal with imo. If we are to maximise sanchez's talents then we need to play him through the middle as a striker (not a lone striker though) and give him the chance to be THE integral player we all expect him to be

Personally debouchy concerned me a lot today - he seemed unsure going forward and I'm not sure of his defensive positioning
Ramsey too was well stifled imo but true to form he popped up with a crucial goal just when we needed it.

Personally I thought that our two centre backs and arteta were outstanding and Monreal was a big improvement on gibbs :o

Personally I thought Debuchy had a decent game and Arteta was anonymous..at best.
Agree about Monreal though...going to be a bit controversial here and say I don't think he is as bad as people on here make out...just seems to be made a bit of a scapegoat at times.

well that's some shit augie...

I was actually quite impressed with debuchy :? , especially going forwards, clearly the advantage of being a PL regular is that he doesn't need settling in time.

Gibbs is great I am a big fan, but what concerns me is his injuries and that his understudy is Monreal. I know Monreal looked fine today but he really had no questions asked, you really wouldn't want to start him away at Everton.

Sanchez I'm not worried, was he poor? yes. But he was totally out of sync with the players around him. It will take him some time to get used to people runs and when they will feed him in. He did show a lot of neat touches.

The reason Ozil and Sanchez came to Arsenal is crucially to play more games, the reason they weren't playing enough at Barca and Real was because they were underperforming compared to their very talented team mates, it's up to us a club to improve them and get the most out of them. You can't hide here we paid a lot of money for them.

Both Özil and Sánchez were certain starters for Real and Barca respectively.
