He was shit but it wasn't his fault he was bought by Arsene.
Wish him well for the future.

Red Member is running a charity collection for his fave keeper if anyone's interested

Barca, West Brom, Birmingham, the list is fucking endless, only pity is the Arsenal medical team didn't diagnose his heart problem and he might never have been at the club, but then again we sign players with broken fucking backs.
And keep perma-injured useless bastards on the payroll.

Re: Almunia set to retire due to heart problem
Looking back, the first thing I think of when I think about Almunia is the penalty save from Robbie Keane back in 2007.
Which is odd, because the majority of my memories are negative. His mistakes were endless and hugely costly, so by the time he threw away the equaliser in injury time at Birmingham in 2010 (and ended our title chances), I was ready to blast his head off with a machine gun.
As has been said though, the anger was really toward AW for persisting with him. Always seemed like a decent guy in interviews, and always seemed honoured to be playing for us.

Afraid I always equated him with Manuel off Fawlty Towers.
Sad to hear though wish him all the best

But we didn't buy him - celta Vigo owed us money for the hi ho silvinho signing so the offer us an average keeper and we then allow him to be first choice at one of europe's biggest clubs before we actually elevate him to deputy captain

Of course having eventually left us, he returned to his proper level......lower championship side watford

Sad to hear that. Still at least he'll have more quality time to spend with the pooch.

Well at least he'll have all his Millions to fall back on whilst the likes of us continue to work for a living.

Re: Almunia set to retire due to heart problem
Good luck to him. He was distinctly average- probably a mid-lower top-flight team's keeper and never the type that would win you the league but then again for all the time he was with us, we never looked like a team that was bothered about winning the league. It wasn't his fault that Wanker kept picking him when he was clearly not good enough and it wasn't his fault that Wanker gave him a new deal which he just ran down. I remember a few decent saves but many more terrible mistakes.
Re: Almunia set to retire due to heart problem
He was a championship keeper but have to admit to being gutted for him.
Imagine being told you can no longer do what you've trained and worked for most of your life...bit like the mini Ewok man being told he can't go Dwarf dogging....

He was never good enough to play for us, did ok for Watford, more his level. It is sad he has this problem and I wish him well for the future.
