THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Everyone will blame Wenger for the continuing nonsense we see at the club, but his actions are a result of a large amount of the fan- base(AKB'S) putting zero pressure on him to achieve anything, and when it all goes tits up, they will find excuses for him, or blame the players, as they did when we got stuffed 6-0 and 5-1 by Chelsea and Liverpool last season. Wenger knows that with these fans on his side, he can do whatever he wants, and therefore Arsenal F.C. has become his own vanity project, in which embarrassment's like Sanogo actually get to play for the club, when any decent manager would know that someone like him, belongs in championship level at best. These AKB'S think they are super fans by supporting Wenger no matter what, but if they actually questioned some of his actions, then maybe he might attempt to change for the better.

Im sure that the first point is right, but there just is no way that he would change if questioned, surely hes been around long enough to see he is a stubbon as a mule- the more he is questioned the more he is likely to stay doing the same thing. Theres no winning with AW :cussing: :cussing:

It's unlikely that Wenger reads this forum so what is it you do to put pressure on the manager?

I cant Understand The AKB'S, how can any Gooner agree with his interview last night. Everyman and his Dog knows we need a quality Striker, and he is to Stubborn to address the Issue. I despair of some of our support now. The PL AND Sky have generated this New Breed, who thing Football was invented in 1992. Give me proper old School Fans Any Day. :banghead: :( :cussing:

Il tell you what I don't do, I don't turn up at the Emirates, and sing there's only one Arsene Wenger, no matter how poorly his management has proven to be, and I don't blindly follow like you. 6-3, 6-0, 5-1, 3-0, all defeats suffered last season under Wenger's management, because he wont adapt his tactics, im sure you will find some defence of Wenger on this, and this is only a part of his terrible management.

I'm not going to defend Wenger but I am willing to criticise some of our fan base for their expectations. Some of what I read on here is just unreasonable at times.

Im not expecting us to win the title or champions league, but I do expect a sustained title challenge, I do expect our manager to buy players in the positions that we clearly need, especially as we are one of the richest clubs in the world. I expect him to adapt his tactics to counter whatever team we are playing, I don't think that is too unreasonable.

In what aspects spuddy ? He is being (in my opinion at least) correctly slaughtered for his lack of tactical nous, for the blatant disregard in the way he prepares for opposition teams, for the ridiculous contracts handed out to average players, for his inability to motivate his players, for his absolute refusal to spend the resources he has available, for his woeful inability to recognise and change our shortcomings, for the disgraceful contempt/disregard he has shown to the fans and finally for watering down the ambitions of our club to the point that a virtual trophy is the be all and end all these days :( :(

Not sure where our expectations are unreasonable tbh spuddy :?

I love how I'm just this easy target on here for everything Wenger nowadays. AKB, sympathiser, apologist, sheep blah blah fucking blah. I honestly can't be bothered.

You are though looking at him as though he is speaking to our fans alone, maybe he is trying to play it down so we dont get shafted in transfer fees like Manure are doing? He has I think to do these interviews post match, surely they are mostly full of total bs like all managers interviews post matches?

Will be pi**ed like most gooners to see no strikers signed, but there is a few days left before total meltdown occurs

I'd say we are judging him based on past experience! I'm not convinced Wenger plays mind games like that anyway.

I think that we got proper spoiled ten years ago and some of our supporters now think that is a continually achievable target. That just isn't realistic.

I agree with you to a point but saying that we have unreasonable expectations is a sweeping statement that really doesn't stand up when you break it down to all the factors I listed above. Most of us know that we will never see another team like the 2002-2004 side, but surely it isn't unreasonable to expect everyone to do their utmost to push the club forward ? That cock is holding us back and wont step aside
