Let's All Laugh At Man Utd! (Merged thread)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

a rallying cry froim Van Gaal . not :

Asked whether the scale of rebuilding required was a surprise, Van Gaal said: 'Yes. But that is looking at the past. That is a question I don't want to answer. Why? Because I want to show my respect to David Moyes and to Mr Ferguson.

'I think we have to look at the future and that we are doing now with Manchester United. We are restoring and rebuilding a new team. That costs time, I'm sorry to say that.'
you can almost hear the glazer family sweating from here lol.

interesting that he either really didn't know - which in itself hardly inspires confidence about his knowledge of the English game, or he's already making excuses for his early exit.

come on Burnley, do it for England, Europe and the World :barscarf:

I don't disagree with the fact it is a huge job and they need a bit of time. I would also be doing the same as van Gaal and downplaying expectations.

But they have spent basically £200m in 12 months and recouped less than £10m. van Gaal himself has spent £130m. Don't get me wrong, United were obviously going to have to pay over the odds for players and nobody was going to pay top dollar for theirs. But even considering that and the ever-spiralling transfer market that is a fucking huge wedge to spend and just isn't reflected by the players they've bought.

Ive an even stronger feeling that this could end in a Leeds situation, friend of mine managed to get a ticket to see them v Swansea for the first time ever, he wont be going again. The fanbase may start melting away .

Go on Manure, even Dave Hockaday has become available to furthur the cause :barscarf:

At the risk of repeating myself to death , I , especially in my home City and Country, hacve serious issues with the Man U fanbase. Certainly here genuine Man U fans are the only ones that always seem to vindicate themselves..." I'm a United fan and have been for years" The majority are clueless :censored: who couldn't name six United players but like all things in life their support is disposable.

I see where woy hodgson has also spoken publicly about shaws level of fitness during the world cup  I know that history is littered with fine young players who never fulfilled their potential because they took their eye off the prize (who knows about it more than AFC :( ), but I cant help feeling that this kid is being hung out to dry by the managers that are supposed to protect him and help develop him. Surely they should be able to get through to him in other ways bar through the media ? If they need to do it this way in a bid to shake him up, then I think that shaw will never be any better than a mid table player and the wisdom of manure spending so much on him will really be called into question

To be fair to Hodgson he was very tentative about it and although I didn't see the interview was probably asked a question about Shaw's fitness.

van Gaal on the other hand hung him out to dry. As somebody pointed out at the time, imagine if Wenger signed somebody for nearly £30m, came out and slagged them off to all and sundry and made a point of putting them on such severe training that within a few weeks they picked up a training injury.

Odds on van gaal behind there when the season ends ? The guy has a history of causing trouble at every club he has managed and if these results keep going, the shit will really hit the fan

and the comedy keeps coming - de gea and evans were dire today. their defence and midfield were crap.

even with mata and di maria they created nothing and wooney and RVP were anonymous.

only 2 shots on target.

they could find themselves 7 points off the top four at the end of today

to pull that back, they have to beat all the top four at least once - which i don't see happening.

happy days

If they don't get nine points off their next three games- QPR at home, Leicester away and West Ham at home then I think they are already in serious trouble. This is because that will be eighteen very achievable points that will be gone, before they face last years top six home and away. But on the current form those three teams must feel they can get at least a point off United- what a rapid decline

Also, who else like me gets really angry about this myth about "under-investment" by the apparently miserly Glazers. In fact the owners have spent significant sums at the club, £131 million just this season, it just perhaps hasn't been very well spent

qpr and west ham are poor. but even if they get six points, they are going to have 8 points from 6 games - mid table form.

they should drop more points at leicester.

Moyes did a dreadful job there but really he was passed a ticking time bomb and what he did was lift the aura and illusion United had under Ferguson. A season out of the CL was a huge wake-up call and imo not a disaster in itself as it gave the new manager a great chance. van Gaal doesn't have the excuse of high expectations or fixtures and if it goes tits-up this year and don't get CL they'll be in real trouble given how much they've spent.
