It's a fucking joke...i'm not bothered about losing out on Remy (very average) but if we really was interested why wait till Chavs have all but signed him before making a bid?

cue Wenger "we tried to sign Remy but cannot compete.. :blah: :blah: :blah:....."

He's going to be our big signing.

I also can't really see any big moves happening. I think the big clubs have just about done their business now, United could potentially look to make another signing but you'd think if Vidal was going to happen it would have done by now.

The di Maria deal was to balance the books from the Rodriguez and Kroos deals, just like Ozil was to off-set the money spent on Bale (and a few others) last year. They won't need to do any more selling unless they spent a wad on Falcao. Barcelona have got an impending transfer ban and have financed this summer by selling Sanchez and Fabregas already. Bayern have matched up by selling Kroos and Mandzukic.

The usual trigger on/around deadline day is the merry-go-round when a high value transfer goes through but unless Falcao goes I can't see it happening. Which scuppers Wenger's usual plan of crossing his fingers and hoping that clubs are suddenly desperate to offload world class players to us for bargain prices.

Amy Lawrence, who you may remember from Herd's forward thinking description;

this morning broke the news that Arsenal had no interest in Loïc Rémy. We had not activated his release clause and were not planning on doing it. This comes less than 24 hours after some other person on Twitter (not to mention, Sky sources) claimed that we had and this place went in to fucking meltdown again. Even the manic depressive 1989 started having a go at Wenger because of it!

So let that be a lesson to you all. 99% of the stuff on transfers this summer and in the remaining days has been/will be complete made up bollocks designed at getting hits on their sites. Many of these sites get advertising based off of the number of hits they get. So, y'know...

Most of you will continue to believe everything you read, though. Like Arsenal's mythical £100 million warchest that literally no one ever said existed.

Utterly fucking depressing. If I didn't have Nat's hooters to look forward to tomorrow night I don't know what I'd do. Another cluster fuck of a transfer window by Le Gimp :banghead:

I agree with your point regarding knee jerk reactions to media rumours, but we all know that most of it is bullshit but enjoy debating the rumours anyway - lets face it, if this thread was about actual signings then it wouldn't get to a dozen pages :oops:

What I wont agree with is your dismissing of the transfer warchest rumour - our public accounts have been scrutinised by people with financial expertise, and all of them agree that we have close to £100m sitting idle in our accounts. This wasn't a figure pulled from thin air but based on actual publicly declared account by the club itself so surely cant be dissed like that ?

I assume you're referring to the Swiss Ramble article about us having £150 million cash balance (in 2013 - before the Özil transfer). The article states that, obviously, not all of that cash balance is available for transfers and that, while £100 million might be feasible, £70 million is more likely. Again, this is before the Özil transfer.

Now, I'm no financial expert. My bloody wife handles all of the finances at T.S. towers :lol:. What I'm saying is, "£100 million war chest" is sexier than "possibly £70 million for transfers and wages."

In terms of transfers and money available, people will believe what they want. In many cases, it's so suit their own agenda. All I was saying was that, certain people on here bang on about this £100 million war chest as if it's bleedin' Championship Manager. Alas, real life doesn't really work like that.

Not excusing anything. Signing Sanchez as the only addition to a squad that wasn't good enough to begin with shows little ambition at all. I was just saying...

Ok fair enough TS, but again we see the big headline signing (sanchez) masking the not insignificant revenue we received on player sales this summer (and I include the money received from sociedad for giving up the buy back clause) - this summer we have to date, got 10 players off our payroll and added only 4 and this also can only add to our available capital

We had £143m in cash in Nov 2013. I.E. after the Ozil signing. We have to keep about £25m on hand as part of the covenants on the stadium debt. Obviously you don't want to spend all your savings, but when you take into account unloading the dross and payments for the likes of Fabregas, £100m is a reasonable number and we have gone nowhere near it.

Chips and Augie;

No doubt - I completely agree. While I'd remind people that our "war chest" is for transfer fees and wages, there is no denying that we have a significant amount of money to spend. I'd say our war chest is - £Shitloads.

So, with that said, The Dirty One as the only real addition simply isn't good enough. We might sign fucking Jan Mølby on deadline day, or something - but whoever we get it still won't be enough.

I don't want to live in a world where Yaya Sanogo is a legit striking option at The Arsenal.

And Yaya starts today. I really thought that with the financial shackles off that Wenger would kick on. Looks like he is still being his parsimonious self. If the window closes and we add just a centreback, we are aiming for only 4th place again. He really needs to go. Still, at least I saved some dosh on a ST this year, but with another groundhog year beckoning, I am wondering when people will start getting bored.
