As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
At this point in time I'm chuffed tbh. He left the manc scum to join us so he is an instant legend in my book. That status is for him to lose now. Despite what he may have said he has obviously felt undervalued and cast aside the last few years and I'm hoping that will be the catalyst for him to kick on, he will surely have a point to prove.
He's yet to set the world alight but a fresh start for him may well just do it for him, he wouldn't be the first player to be revitalised at the Arsenal. He's young, English and certainly has the attributes to succeed with us. I for one am really looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the table.
Can't see him being booed, our fans are some of the most tolerant and forgiving around. Think how many yeas of shit performances we had from the likes of Bendtner and even at the end you could here some bellends singing 'super Nic'
Good pal of mine came over from Ireland on Tuesday, he recently moved back there and had a season ticket at OT until he did. I thought he was gonna piss himself at the transfer but he was genuinely gutted which if you knew him spoke volumes to me. Not on the same level as when the human tampon (in for a week, out for a month) joined them but nice for them to get a little taste of their own medicine
A small question for ye.....has anybody actually suggested booing wellbeck in his home debut ? I see a few people saying that fans shouldn't or that they don't think they will boo him, but I'm wondering what the fcuk is going on because I cant remember anybody stating that they would boo him or that we all should boo him
I don't rate the guy and I certainly think that they have screwed us over with the £16m fee, but not even I would be mad enough to even contemplate booing the guy before he even gets a chance with us I don't go along with the bullshit "he left manure to join us so that makes him a legend" because tweety pie springs to mind straight away ( ), but at the same time I don't treat any new signing differently based on who they joined us from

Fair point and I'm hoping for Wellbeck to do well rather than expecting but it's more the reaction of some of their fans to the move that lifts him in my estimation. They were laughing their bollox of at us when we signed sylvestre as he was a pile of dog shite but a fair few of them, my best mate included are well fucked off to lose 'one of their own' to us. I just hope he doesn't let us down cos if he does it will really take the shine of of the manc bashing I've enjoyed over the last year. I've had a decade of my mates shite so anything else to fuck him off is most welcome
Someone had posted somewhere whether there could be both sets of fans booing him against citeh I think it was a question more than a statement which is why I referred to it. I may have got that in a different thread
He'll get a great reception on his home debut. Only an idiot would boo a player that has never insulted the club and has had only good things to say about us. He's not the signing most of us wanted but I think most of us are intelligent enough to see he might become a very good signing and are prepared to give him time.
He wouldn't have been my first choice but our system cries out for pace and movement and he's got both in spades. Alexis ditto, but we need a wide left player with the same qualities, not a Santi or Ozil who always want the ball to feet, thereby slowing play down to a walk.
Dannyboy, Alexis and Santi (the OX would do for now) will give even the best defences problems.
I'm a little bit optimistic and I would love to see him blossom.

Paul Hayward daily telegraph.
I'm in no way referring his above comment from what I'm gonna say but that Paul Hayward seems to be a right d*ckhead - have seen him a few times on sunday supplement and he talks in such a condescending way and he seems to be a right boring w*nker
Long lost cousin mate
Christ, augie is losing his touch. Okay I'll do it for him;
On which side, your mom's or your dad's?
It would have been rude not to after augie's Sanogo type miss of the open goal Lefty gave him!!
Tbf lads I left it open on purpose because the poor fella needs an assist, and in usual augie style.....he missed it
Has Wenger made any comment whatsoever on the signing of Welbeck? I havent' heard a peep, normally there's some sort of blurb out of him. Any chance the signing was made above his head?

Good one Rodders!!
I always had a feeling the signing of Arshavin was above his head at a time we looked in real danger of missing out on the virtual trophy. Now with him content to play Sanogo every game and after a sluggish start to the season I wouldn't be at all surprised if Welbeck was brought in by Ivan and co.
There has been zero mention of Welbeck by Wenger, he's obviously got the hump.
i can't image a single things is done at The Arsenal without wongas prior permission, but it is a little odd - and welbeck is in no way a typical wonga signing - he's English, 23 and not shit.
it will be interesting next Friday to see what he says in his pre-defeat press conference to see if he gives us any back story.
Physically, Welbeck is a superb athlete, having an excellent combination of strength and mobility in addition to superb stamina. This makes it difficult to know how to defend against him because, although he prefers running in behind, he is very comfortable with his back to goal.
Technically, he is better than he generally gets given credit for. I'd say Danny's technique is on a similar level to Ramsey, very good though not on the elite level of the likes of Ozil and Wilshere. He is inconsistent when trying flicks and tricks but his passing, particularly in tight spaces, is top notch for a striker and it's no coincidence that he has tended to be involved in our best team goals in the last few years.
His defensive instincts are very solid, particularly for someone who plays in an attacking position and I think this has sometimes had a detrimental effect because it has encouraged managers to use him in a wide role with a defensive remit, which is something he can do well but doesn't really show him at his best. He also has a superb attitude and work ethic, which makes me think he will thrive under a development-minded manager like Wenger.
What about his weaknesses?
Welbeck's main weakness, indeed I'd say his only truly major one, is his finishing, which admittedly is a pretty fundamental weakness for a striker. This isn't a matter of technique because if you look at the goals he has scored, there are a lot of high-quality finishes in there, it's more a combination of nerves and pressure.
Having to compete with Van Persie and Rooney for a place and often being played out wide has often caused him to be a bit over-keen to impress when he has played up front and this has led him to snatch at some chances, whilst Danny himself has commented that when he has played out wide, it was always in his mind when he got a scoring chance that it might well be the only one he would get in the game, which led to him rushing them.
This is borne out by the stats because if you look at his 25 appearances in the league last year, he scored 8 times in 13 games when playing up front but only 1 in 12 when playing wide.
apart from the comments about wilshire and wenger, thats interesting stuff. 8 in 13 as a CF.
wengers going to play him out wide isn't he ?
Schmeichel today described him as "technically awkward to play against" too.

I'm disappointed that the beginning of the transfer window promised much more than we eventually achieved.
But there you go.
The tosser in charge didn't want to strengthen and replace. His philosophy is akin to Tony fucking Bliar.
I'm in charge, I call the shots, the money is good, so therefore, I must be right.
This ain't my footy club anymore . I've fallen out of love with IT.
