Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'd love to know where a lot of this 'inside information' that we often appear to get on here comes from. I think a lot of it comes from inside people's own heads.
Like the voices that tell me to burn things eh?

The only reason I'm questioning it is because Wenger hasn't yet uttered a single word on the transfer. I find this absolutely incredible 8 days on, there's always a comment from Wenger on Pravda about every signing let alone our third biggest ever transfer.

For what it is worth, it wasn't you I was thinking about!

I think he'll discuss Wellbeck at the pre match press conference. I'm surprised there has not even been a soundbite on the official site but I wouldn't personally read too much into that. I think the fact that he wasn't here when the deal was done is the reason we have not heard anything from him yet.

Agreed

i told Rodders that yesterday before the ingerland game.

what will be interesting on Friday, is will the press let wenger have a 'gimme' or not - will they ask or not, so where does this leave Sanogo ? , who btw has told us "Welbeck will have to earn his place"

i'm hoping that wenger will blah blah blah about depth and competition and then play Danny, but if he says "they can play together" there's going to be major :banghead:

based on Jacks comments today, he at least expects to be at the back of a Diamond at home too :

-------------Welbeck-----------
Ozil----------------------Sanchez
--------------Wilshire------------

-----Flamini/Tets----Ramsey---

which in my mind rules out sanogo. hopefully anyway.

piece.

So true, Wenger gets so much stick on here for being a dictator and having too much power that people seriously can't think he is not in complete control of all football matters/transfers.

Welbeck is very much a Wenger style signing.

in what way ? - i don't think he has ever signed an Englishman over 21 has he ?

i'm thinking of Jeffers. Pennant, Ox, Wally, Upton.

whilst panic buys are becoming the norm, the target is very unusal imho.

He is young, cheapish, a bit lost and not doing so well at his last club, is ripe to be Wengerised and turned into a 'star' while the boss laps up the credit for transforming him.

Nothing unusual about it.

Cheap ? At £16m ? Are you having a laff ? :?  Personally I think we have been robbed blind over the transfer fee - if the fee was £8m-£10m with another few million based on clauses, appearances, goals etc then I could live with that, but a non conditional £16m fee is a rip off imo

Young England international striker who has yet to hit his prime. Pretty reasonable considering the current market prices (Andy Carroll for 35m). If anything we ripped them off.

Exactly this, 16m is nothing these days for young English players, look back at transfers of Shaw, Jones, Bentley, Carroll, Henderson, Rodwell, Milner etc, he's a bit more experienced than all of those in a more expensive position so the club have done well.

That 16m could help keep United's 150m summer spending spree (or whatever it was) out of the CL as it was a weak area for us and they have done what we have done in the past by strengthening a rival.

There's only one winner in this move.
