Some "interesting" viewpoints from arseblog re Chesney's sending off -

"Szczesny came out, mistimed it slightly, pulled his arms in as he knew it, but the player clattered into him and the keeper was shown a red card. I’ve mentioned this before, and not simply because it happened to our player, but it’s an overly harsh punishment for what is a small, almost unavoidable, foul"

It gets better

"Galatasaray should then have been reduced to 10 men for Felipe Melo’s horrendous challenge on Alexis. He went steaming in with two feet off the ground and I think we’re lucky he didn’t begin his jump a foot closer to the Chilean because if he’d caught him a few inches higher we could easily have been in Eduardo territory. The leniency of that decision was brought into sharper focus later on when Szczesny got red for very little"

Now I'm all on for standing up for your own, but frankly that is embarrassing and pathetic  Is there anybody else anywhere in the world that would dispute Chesney getting red ? Even le cock didn't have the neck to claim that the red was harsh

I said we needed at least one of Sanchez/Carzola to play before KO vs 5pur2 and last night proved my point, wasted opportunity last Sunday...now who picks the team??? :rubchin:

Sorry mate but I agree with both assessments - and, like you, I'm no fan of Arseblog. I've always thought keepers get harshly punished in those situations, especially when they pull away their arms but a striker runs into them. As for the second point, where's the dispute? :? :?

We're damn luck Sanchez wasn't snapped in half last night, that was an absolute disgraceful "tackle". Melo should be retrospectivly punished with a 3 match ban and that so called referee should be demoted. Appalling stuff.

By the way, am I the only gooner that thought Ozil was our worst attacking player yesterday? I've heard and read people say he had a great game but I thought for the most part he was lazy, drifted in and out of the game, was wasteful with possession or only played the simple tippy, tappy 3 yard pass - the assist for Sanchez being the exception - rather than taking the game by the scruff of the neck like you would expect from a so-called world class player. And why doesn't he shoot more? :banghead: :banghead:

Hlebby you cant argue the sending off or claim it to be harsh when the rules have been in place for a long time now - it was as clear a case of denying a clear goalscoring opportunity as you are ever likely to see and if the opposition keeper did it and wasn't sent off, then I and thousands of Gooners would be outraged over it

Fact is that Chesney had a total brainfart - imo he could have got the ball were it not for that moments hesitation, but once he wasn't there on time he should have stood up instead of diving in like a brainless fool

I'm not arguing that it's not in the rules - just that the rule is and always has been unfair. Unless a keeper properly takes out a forward - then I think a yellow card should suffice. Especially in light of the way forwards nowadays deliberately initiate contact when they could just as easily have avoided it.

No you're not and the way he avoids any physical contact is embarrassing at times

nice to see the applause for Chambers every time he did something neatly - it reminded me of how the lower west would encourage our young players in the same way.

Ozil last night was pushed off the ball by Snjeider - he did try hard but he's not physically strong enough nor has he got the stamina for the EPL.

OX was immense last night, sanchez and welbeck obviously too - the work rate of those three carried the team.

Flamini made a couple of vital tackles but he hasn't got the legs either anymore - he should be that 85min sub that comes on to protect a goal lead, not a starter.

No, I also thought he was perhaps our least impressive player but then saw loads waxing lyrical about him on twitter and doubted my thoughts.

He did loads of his little touches and nice passes but felt he did not fancy competing for the ball at all, was actually shocked that he stayed on after the red as he looked our least willing runner and we needed the runners on at that point.

Lucky Melo didn't break Sanchez's leg. We'd have probably got a hefty fine for failing to protect our players whilst he got away with a yellow.

Galatasaray have been charged with the conduct of their supporters, a more serious charge, which could result in the partial closure of their ground for future Champions League games.
