As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Any memories of away matches here in years gone by ?
Only went once to the old Roker Park ground, back in 1991, very close to the end of the season......our title rivals Liverpool lost in an earlier kick off to Chelsea and we claimed a very useful point in a very drab 0-0 to put us within touching distance of the title for the 2nd time in 3 seasons
(Anyone remember title challenges) ?
Seem to recall the Sunderland fans being quite happy that we looked likely to win the title at the expense of the scousers, with quite a few good luck / hope you win the title being spoken.
Apart from that how about a Henry goal to sea a victory from a great Arshavin assist.
Aye, we were singing "champions" at you that day (in a time when you didnt exactly expect awarm reception, especially when the home team has lost), the arsenal fans were clapped instead of bricked to their bus and since then (although nany younguns dont know it) theres always been a healthy respect. Mind im in the ground now so arsenal can fuck off
Nah, we're shit, you'll win. Good luck for the rest of the season
PS i was there when henry got his standing ovation after a few goals, i remember him praising our fans post match. Well deserved, he was mint
I've only been up there once and that was to see us draw 1-1 with Vieira hoofing a penalty about 20 feet over the bar near the end. I then got stuck on the train for hours on the way back when the train broke down at Peterbrough. I remember having a drink with a few Sunderland supporters at the station before the journey home and they were all nice chaps.
Loads of fun over the years ,scary moments too , Malcom Mcdonalds league debut being my first visit to a newly promoted Sunderland team aged 18 .
We had a nightmare of a day even reaching the place as the very unhappy Geordie maggots 100's of them were waiting
for us as we changed trains to to old branch line at Newcastle before and after the match.
2-2 the result and Of course Super Mac scored which made the already Hostile crowd.
The six of us that went YUP there were six AFC at that match where surrounded in the stand opposite the clock stand but somehow we got out .
1982 And Brian McDermott getting badly fucked up by a horrendous tackle that would get you banned for a season nowadays and moi getting arrested for drunk n disorderly , around that time Sunderland support had plummeted to the 15,000 level !
Getting pissed with mensi from the upstarts ,getting taken to Hospital after getting stabbed on a train , being showed who killed liddle towers !
December 1982. Lost 3 nil to a Gary Rowell hat trick. Left London at 8 got back at 12 and just about got last tube. Coldest I have ever been at football.
