Costa showed in one moment why his transfer fee was worth double - one moment in a big match, take it, game over
The thing is Steveo Welbeck was never given the ball today in the same area that costa was for his goal,Welbeck needs slide rule passes splitting open the defence for him to run onto or a ball over the top for him to chase, all this pedestrian tippy tappy bollox doesn't help him one bit,he isn't going to score with a brick wall of chavski players ahead of him when he gets the ball all caused by the fact that the build up is so slow and predictable that they've pulled everybody back behind the ball, its Wenkers fault not Dannys,we thrive on high tempo football not pedestrian sideways shit
Generally agree, but if you looked at the two victories we've had at Stamford Bridge in recent memory have been van Judas managing to create half a yard of space out of nowhere and ruthlessly taking 5 chances.
youre forgetting one massive point tho,Mourinho wasn't in charge for those games,we will never beat him or win anything with that crunt in charge

That is also true - if Mourinho had Senderos and Djourou at the back and we had Messi and Ronaldo in our team, we'd still lose 2-0 there

I think we just have to accept that Welbeck is a bit like Giroud; not world class, a bit limited, and needs too many chances to score. But both can do a job to a certain degree. The problem is we need a true world class striker and we need to play one or the other of Welbeck or Giroud beside him with Ozil in the 10 just behind - something Mr 30 Years won't do, because it's not his idea  . Welbeck hasn't got Giroud's ability to win the ball in the air, or his ability to link up with his back to goal, but he has things Giroud doesn't, like pace and the ability to see and then make a decent run in behind. What is obvious is that the 3-5-1 (at least the way we play it) doesn't really suit either of them. :|

I disagree! He is very different to Giroud who is more of a 'back to the goal' striker.

Mostly agree
Welbeck hasn't got Giroud's ability to win the ball in the air
Totally disagree with that!

Agreed

I think it would if Ozil was the middle man of the 5. (also if we played 4-5-1 not 3-5-1. Or are you allowing for a red card from the start

Yeah - it's the revolutionary new 3-5-1 formation!

My comparison of Welbeck to Giroud was only on the superficial level that they both are "not world class, a bit limited, and need too many chances to score". Agreed that they are very different players in style, as I alluded to in the rest of my post. You spacker.

Also agree 100% that if we played players in their best positions we might make 4-5-1 (or even 3-5-1! :D ) work to a better degree than we currently do.

I still maintain that Welbeck (at least with his back to goal) jumps too early and is outjumped too often and so doesn't win near as many in the air as Giroud. And if we are to play that 4-5-1 without Walcott and without an Ozil in the middle then that lone striker will spend alot of time with his back to goal.

The flat track bully reputation stays firmly in tact

Exactly what I thought - this bloke is a 10-15 PL goals per season man, all scored against sub standard shite. Played from the start against City, Chavski, United, and Spuds......no goals.

Fits in perfectly with the rest of them - can we play Burnley every week please ?

An average, hit and miss player. Just what £16m gets you these days. Average.

He isn't good enough, simple as that. There isn't a single top team that would start him, and there's a reason LVG sold him.
But like Silvestre and Benayoun before him, if "rivals" are letting you have these players, it's for a reason! His record for ManYoo in big games and now Arsenal, is shocking. He's mediocre - making him a perfect fit for Wenker. Looked like United really missed him
Today eh

When he was made publically available in the Summer only us and the Spuds wanted him.....didn't see the top Spanish, German and English clubs forming a queue for him

Nice lad....works hard and will score roughly the same number per season as Giroud. But he's a 4th place player pure and simple

For a team that apparently has ambitions to win the title, this guy should be a 3rd choice striker, at best - behind someone of the ilk of Suarez/Costa etc, then Giroud, then Welbeck. His touch & control is generally terrible, has a touch of the Gervinho's about him. Hasn't scored for us since Galatasaray on Oct 1st. How many chances has he fluffed since then?

He wouldn't be leading the line at any serious club with ambition.

The reason he was bought (maybe above wengers head) was to stop the ridiculous Sanogo experiment.

But a line up of welbeck, giroud, sanogo?...not serious.
