He is an honest player but not a top quality one.

Who needs Higgy or Suarez when you've got United's cast offs eh ?
Re: Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)
He got into loads of great positions today but couldn't finish one.

Re: Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)
Feel for the guy cos he brings pace and energy to the table, but the reality is that the best strikers are clinical when it comes to seizing that one chance that comes along in the big games, and welbeck isn't at that level. Is he better than giroud ? Without a doubt imo, but not good enough to be first choice at any club with real serious ambitions and this is the point I made when we signed him (where has 1989 been lately btw ?

Re: Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)
Would it really matter who is upfront if we continue to defend with one man on the halfway line and every other bastard in their half?
Some of the most pathetic defending yet served up by one of Wenger's teams.

love it! after the game, he claims it was naïve.
Right it was against your orders Arsene? despite different teams and players under you doing the same kamikaze approach.

Chesney, Gibbs, Chambers, Monreal, Mertesacker, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ox, Alexis, Welbeck
Manager: A Wenker

Chesney, Sagna, Clichy, Koscielny, Djourou, Diaby, Walcott, Fabregas, Wilshere, Arshavin, Van Persie

Must be all Chesney's fault then seeing as the rest of the entire starting XI was different. What else could possibly be the common factor?

Absolutely don't agree RE Welbeck being better than Giroud, augie. Both are average strikers with diferent strengths and weaknesses. They are about the same level. But with Giroud, I always feel he might score, he might deliver something different or spectacular (like the screamer on Saturday), whereas with Welbeck I'm always surprised when he does score! Welbeck does make far better runs off the ball than Giroud. But I'd also say Giroud is far stronger and is better equipped to link up with passing midfielders.augie wrote:Feel for the guy cos he brings pace and energy to the table, but the reality is that the best strikers are clinical when it comes to seizing that one chance that comes along in the big games, and welbeck isn't at that level. People talk about Welbeck's pace, but on Saturday there were two occasions when he failed to get on a decent through ball and was outpaced by Manure defenders, even though on one of those occasions Welbeck had a yard or two head start! His pace is good, but not great.
Ultimately, both can do a job at a certain level, (and would do a better job in a proper tactically sound formation under a more astute manager), but also ultimately neither are good enough and neither will ever get beyond second striker status.
Re: Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)
in my honest opinion on Saturday Welbeck didn't get one clear chance on goal apart from the header, the other two close range efforts he had defenders harassing him both times,i rate Welbeck, his pace alone is a problem to defenders,if he was given a good run up front unchallenged same as Giroud I think we'd reep the benefits, you only have to look at sturridge and how hes blossomed at Liverpool

Re: Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)
Giroud's sluggishness is frustrating but given the same run in the side I think that Welbeck's ability to scuff most great chances could become equally frustrating. I'm not a Giroud fan by any means but we looked a better team with him in it last season. It's nice to have pace up top but fundamentally last year we weren't struggling to beat the smaller teams, and Welbeck has brought absolutely nothing against the bigger sides.markyp wrote:in my honest opinion on Saturday Welbeck didn't get one clear chance on goal apart from the header, the other two close range efforts he had defenders harassing him both times,i rate Welbeck, his pace alone is a problem to defenders,if he was given a good run up front unchallenged same as Giroud I think we'd reep the benefits, you only have to look at sturridge and how hes blossomed at Liverpool
I'm not putting our demise completely down to Welbeck replacing Giroud but for the added pace up front there is no cohesion with the midfield, and our front three are not clinical enough to do the same sort of job as Liverpool's 4 fluid attackers did last year.
Just a variation on a theme really - his attributes are different to Giroud or Podolski but he's yet another striker who is never going to be good enough for a side with title aspirations but might be more useful if Wenger wasn't so insistent on playing him as a lone striker.

If anything, Sturridge has been found out at Liverpool as being bang average. Last year he was gifted loads of opportunities in front of goal because of one thing - Chomper Suarez. Chomper created so much for him. Chomper often drew two and three defenders to him, creating time and space for Sturridge. This season (before his injuries) Sturridge looked a pale imitation of last year as he didn't get that same time and space in the box (or killer assists) with Chomper gone. Chomper made Sturridge look a good deal better than he is.
I agree with NB123, if Welbeck was given a long uninterupted run in the side, we'd all grow very frustrated with him. He needs too many chances to score, he scuffs too many. He's a "good" striker, as is Giroud, but ultimately he is not a great striker, and is not near the top level. The very fact that Manure sold him to us says everything. That's not to say we couldn't get more from Welbeck, if our idiot manager played him in a system that played to his strengths.

Re: Danny Welbeck Signs (dont moan)
I really wanted Danny Welbeck to do well as I really admire his workrate, even if he's having a poor game he runs his bollocks off (as opposed to the lazy useless *word censored* that Giroud is), he appears to have all the tools, pace, physique but without that thing that sets apart the top, top forwards and that's ruthlessness in front of goal!
I think we better realise never Welbeck, Giroud (I'm not even going to mention the other useless tosser) are ever going to be any good for a team that wants to challenge for the title or the CL (actually winning the thing, not qualifying for the cunting thing)

We could play two up front and then have double the missed chances
