THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The AKB'S are in full voice, and we are close to 4th. The loser mentality that exists amongst some supporters at this club is pathetic.
I've said it many times before - there is still a majority who go to games who want him to stay. People get fooled because this is predominantly a Wenger Out forum these days, so they start to believe that because a few hundred on here want him gone that it is representative. My old man and his Block 2 cronies are much more representative of the fan base - certainly at home games. Keeping us in the CL is a 'massive achievement', we still play 'beautiful football', 'we can't compete with the financially doped' blah blah blah - we take the piss out of it on here but many still believe it to be true......far more than those that don't.

Virtually everyone on here who has voiced discontent with the manager at a game has said how they've been confronted about it afterwards. That should tell you everything

Wenger will not be going away before the end of his contract in 2017

Wow not even our beloved Wenger fluffers at Red Action achieved that!

Several interesting things come from this banner:
1, the headlines everywhere are now focusing on Wenker's petulant reaction to the banner. Like I said, funny as the AKBs forever told us unfurling such a banner would "have no effect" on Le Twat. His reaction proved how sensitive he is to criticism.
2. The banner was unfurled during a match we won, making it even less "knee jerk". Proving fans have had enough of this mug
3. There was an idiot's theory that unfurling such a banner would affect results on the pitch :rubchin:
We have conclusive proof it doesn't. I reckon the players like Sanchez, Kos, Podolski etc probably agree with the sentiment.
Only Yaya Sanogo, Diaby, Giroud etc would desperately want him to stay. For obvious reasons.

Well done again banner boys, keep the momentum going and unfurl it again at our next away game.

I have to disagree I'm afraid SteveO. I've said before that's it a bit of a myth on here that every home game is a wenger ***** fest, with "one AW" belted out every game....its really not. I'm a season ticket holder and only heard it sung once last season (one of the cup games)...and it certainly wasn't whole hearted support. I've been regularly arguing/discussing the merits of a change for a few years now, with anyone that is within earshot, and with each passing week more and more people are agreeing. I genuinely believe the tide has turned in our favour and now it's getting publicity the ones wavering on the fence will soon come and join us....but there will always be a few who support him no matter what.

I agree with you to a point - the "There's Only One Arsene Wenger" signing has definitely stopped this season, although I always get the impression its only a run of 4 wins or a 'lap of appreciation' away from being sung once more. However, I haven't seen any evidence that the 'against's' outnumber the 'for's'......if anything the majority sit there silently accepting their fate ! There are a couple of fellas sitting in the back of Block 2 who have a dig at Wenger recently, but what I hear more of are the 'tuts' of disapproval and the glaring looks. These fellas have been hounding Wenger for a couple of years now and I still only hear them as isolated voices.....surely if there was a groundswell of anti-Wenger sentiment then more people would jump on their bandwagon?

I've never once heard anything more than a few half hearted half time or full time boos.....and certainly never seen any more than an isolated few shouting out anti-Wenger comments. The worship may have calmed down but that doesn't mean that more want him out than want him to stay

Fair enough. One time I was surprised I didn't hear it though, was after the cup final...that was an opportunity for akbs everywhere to worship their Lord and master, and it didn't materialise (although I was quite pissed and may not have noticed).

I think part of the problem is that a lot of people who want a change don't want to voice their opinion out of respect for his previous achievements /it's not the Arsenal way.

Unfortunately I think it's going to be more interesting off the pitch then on it this season. I don't think the board will act so our only chance is hurting his ego so much he walks away...more banners and protests, and fingers crossed it sinks in.
Sadly though, i think you're probably right about him being here until 2017 :banghead: :(

That self righteous Dublin blogger and many more have slated the fans displaying the banner both in terms of the lack of respect and the timing of it, but I make them wrong on both counts - if you only display it after a defeat then you get accused of being fickle, plus a banner thanking le cock for the good times is showing total respect (and restraint) to the man because of past achievements 8) I just don't understand the mentality of some people - regardless of the actual prices, are we supposed to keep paying out our money and not be allowed to voice our disapproval when the product is at an unacceptable level ??

Two easy victories against shite teams is not an indicator that a corner has been turned and I look forward to the reactions when we go back to dropping stupid points against mediocre/shite opposition

Course Wenger will remain until 2017. Don't be fooled into thinking most Gooner's at the emirates are pro Wenger because they aren't. They generally wont say anything until there's a bad result, at which point most of the ground turn on the manager. It happened against Swansea two seasons ago and villa last season, when there where tens of thousands singing "you don't know what you're doing" to wenger. It was loud and audible.

What I don't like is some of the stuff that gets said on here. Wenger deserves better than that, if he left tomorrow he would still go down as our most successful manager ever.

Im sorry, but respect is a two way street. When you tell people they don't know what they are talking about because they haven't worked a day in football, then you aren't entitled to respect. When you justify the ridiculous prices that fans have to pay to go to home games by saying, ''you go to the game, and then you judge was it worth the price you paid''(while earning millions yourself) then you aren't entitled to respect. As Wenger's abilities as a manager have decreased, he has lashed out at anyone who questions him, that doesn't deserve respect.
