THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

They generally wont say anything until there's a bad result, at which point most of the ground turn on the manager. It happened against Swansea two seasons ago and villa last season, when there where tens of thousands singing "you don't know what you're doing" to wenger. It was loud and audible.

What I don't like is some of the stuff that gets said on here. Wenger deserves better than that, if he left tomorrow he would still go down as our most successful manager ever.

But how do you quantify that though ? Amount of trophies won ? Average trophy per season count ? Amount of profits generated ? Amount of money spent per trophy ? For me GG is STILL the most successful manager (not necessarily the best manager) given the amount of trophies won over a much shorter timeframe and the fact that he took over a club where losing had become a habit, and then he converted them into winners with a winning mentality - wenker took over a team that was just one season after losing a European final and two seasons since winning their last trophy

yup well done those guys holding the banner, its a shame the press keep flip flopping though, last week the knives were out but today on sunday supplement with the exception of the greek guy who said we settled for mediocrity under wenker the rest said we should be grateful blah blah rinse and repeat.the greek also said all that Wenker has done in his time at Arsenal is keep a great club afloat, nothing more,he said we were winning league titles before Wenker joined so to say he's been great isn't true, well done that journo :barscarf:

i was away for the weekend so missed all of this (dad was poorly...) - fantastic to see the media pick up on the banner and the generally positive reaction to it and the few cards that were also held up, in the print media.

we know this is not its first outing, but very cool that it made the back pages and the TV media questioned him about it this time.

this should give confidence to anyone who wants to raise cards or banners at the southampton game.

as to the result - meh. baggies 315 minutes without a goal.....yawn

I know mate..I feckin know...I truly don't know what we as Fans - have to do or resort to in order to wake the *word censored* (& the board) up out of their comatose arrogance and ignorance...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30264882

Especially when he turns around and says things like this

"We live in a society of total opinion but we live off not what we say but what we do and what we do is on the pitch,"

Can he not see that he is shooting himself in the foot with the last part of that statement...it beggars belief..I was so hopeful last week that the tide in all areas was beginning to turn against him - and yet you get the media *word censored* changing with the wind and ex-players are loyal beyond their own thinking and opinions, it's almost as if they're afraid to say anything too controversial - maybe it's because they still get their freebies with Arsenal etc

Well Done to The Gooners who showed the Banner :high5:

It is Disgusting. Fuckk the lot of them - WENGER OUT! :banghead:
Yeah mate he truly pissed me off with statement like this. We all can see what has been going on on the pitch for the last 8 yrs. Just one pathetic FA cup in 8 yrs and constant thrashing by and loss to top teams.

And I think that Arsenal fans are too soft and nice. We need more fans to show their disapproval in the stadium and not just one or two banner. That's not enough to bring the Wenger empire down.

It's a sorry situation but the window for Wenger to depart with his reputation intact and deserving 100% respect slammed shut some time ago.

Totally incensed today, MOTD2 cant remember if it was Lawrence or her son, but one was spouting on about the shareholders and how important they are in it all.

Would be about right that they forgot about the fans. :banghead:

Beyond belief. :cussing:

I wish for Ancelotti rather than Klopp.

Has won the Double as a manager in the Premier League before.
Opts for fast power football, exciting for the fans.
Can manage big names.
Has won three Champions Leagues as a manager.
Speaks English.
Has managed and lived in London before.

So now the tide has turned and it's about 70% or so, who want AW out.
There's no guarantee he'll leave of his own accord, irregardless if we lose out on FA cup, CL, League title and finish 5th or 6th place. We're out of COC All in one season. He just might honour his contract till 2017. Alas he does himself no favours stating to the media that he's got numerous years of footballing experience, at various levels, to be told what he is or isn't doing. He doesn't need to be arrogant.

If/when Wenger's gone, there's no 100% chance that the next manager will win the CL, all cup comps, and League title, and/or still maintain a top 4 finish, over 1 or 2 seasons. That new person may win 1 or 2 comps, if they can. They need time and patience. Don't expect an overnight sensation. Doesn't work that way.

All in all, if, and that's a big if, losing all comps and landing in 5th or 6th place, be it this season or those leading up to 2017, may cause Wenger to say "adieu".
