I agree that it is hypocritical of the media to take the high moral (or is it moral high?) ground over issues like this while certainly the tabloid section of the media has shown no mercy in destroying people's lives.
Whelan is an idiot and where his comments are more stupid than racist he shouldn't have made them. He is in a position that he should know better..

Re: Dave Whelan - oh dear.
Thing is - many people (even today) amongst their own social groups use terminology that if used in the wider circle of their community would be deemed (and rightly so) as offensive, it is a very difficult balance - I work within an enviroment where we daily deal with people who are homeless - the majority of whom are either addicted to drugs or alchohol often both - plus a whole other spectrum of life difficulties that sadly accompany such circumstances - often involving crime, I say this because the team of people I work with are neither racist, sexist or any of the other (negative) ists/isms - But sometimes just to be able to cope with sometimes harrowing situations - have developed what is often referred to as a Dark Sense of Humour, when I first joined the team - I was genuinely shocked at first - till after a while I realised sometimes we HAVE TO laugh at the most serious and awful of situations/circumstances as that is the only way to cope - Part of that release mechanism often involves humour than many would find offensive - not necessairly name calling etc - but it is often the only way we get through all the shyteness of a day.
So there is a time and a place etc - we might prefer it was different but that's how it is sometimes.

Yes his comments are more stupid than racist and in hindsight he probably wishes he hadn't said it in public.
As an example, Andy Grays comments about a woman linesman. Probably the sort of thing most blokes have said at some point, (is it ok to make the same comments to a male linesman?) like woman drivers. The girls in my office thought he was a bit of a dickhead for saying it but that it was ridiculous to sack him over that.
But the media is big business now and they have their own agenda and as with a lot of issues today wont give up on hounding someone once they have got their teeth into them. With all the bad things going on in the world all these media lovies can think of is to pick up on something someone said. Some people may not like it but no one has died and no one has been hurt.
One thing we should all agree on is how these "groups" like to jump on the football bandwagon to get their point across, using our game to further their point, when really no one is interested.
Keeps people in jobs and gives some of them ideas above their station.

Re: Dave Whelan - oh dear.
Seeing as Whelan has just appointed Mackay, perhaps it would have been sensible to keep his mouth shut regarding anything that could be construed as adding fuel to that particular fire?
I'm not sure that running his mouth at a press conference like Bernard Manning was the best course of action.

Exactly. Everyone is offended these days.![]()
And i and everyone else has been called fat/skinny/midget/lanky. Even some nice Scots bloke calling us English unts in Glasgow.....................so fucking what.
The media are falling over themselves to let everyone know how straightlaced they are just protect their sales/revenue.
Football is no more rascist than any other business but the lovies out there are quick to use it for there own agenda ie Kick it out campaign.
If Whelan has offended you then ring/write to Wigan Athletic and tell him and save us all from this patronising crap.
Racism and bigotry is surreptitious nowadays, but still very damaging.
Fuck Dave Whelan

My contacts at SkySports tell me the Hairy Hands/Gray sacking wasn't just for that comment, but because the two of them had instilled a poisonous bullying atmosphere there and had both gotten way too big for their boots, alienating every fucker and his cousin. The publication of their comments was just the public excuse Sky was waiting for to get rid of them without paying off their huge contracts.SPARKSY wrote:Bradywasking wrote:I agree that it is hypocritical of the media to take the high moral (or is it moral high?) ground over issues like this while certainly the tabloid section of the media has shown no mercy in destroying people's lives.

Ha he is so stupid it's unreal. Don't get me wrong, it's hardly the height of offensiveness and probably something that most people would have a small chuckle at. But equally it's hardly like it had a more sinister double meaning, or has been researched and blown out of all proportion like Ferdinand calling some slag a 'sket' (how ridiculous was his punishment???). It's just so blatantly anti-Semitic it beggars belief that a PL footballer would be stupid enough to post something like this.QuartzGooner wrote:Poor Mario.

Your bloke down the pub is possibly spot on , one story I heard was that the sighs of relief when they got the boot were loud and happy. One article said the make up ladies couldn't stand their arrogance.. I suppose when you are in an untouchable position for say eighteen years you lose respect for other people's feelings and opinions. (see what I am doing here?) .DB10GOONER wrote:My contacts at SkySports tell me the Hairy Hands/Gray sacking wasn't just for that comment, but because the two of them had instilled a poisonous bullying atmosphere there and had both gotten way too big for their boots, alienating every fucker and his cousin. Sometimes I feel sorry for him, but then I think this ignorant moron is a multi millionaire and the sympathy fades just a tad or so....

Piglips though... that fucking moron thinks he's intelligent and that's far more offensive!
