Martinez, Our New Goalie, Needs His Own Thread
Martinez, Our New Goalie, Needs His Own Thread
Its hard not to be impressed by his recent performances. I, for one, cannot see why Schez should automatically get his place back.
I know AW has form in this department; but it was Seaman, although Manninger was mightily impressive.
I would not drop Martinez when Shez is back fit.
This is obviously based on how he handles Stoke tomorrow.
If he fronts up, the position is his.

He hasn't done anything particularly wrong but it wouln't matter if we had Seaman in his prime right now, he would still be picking the ball out of the net far too often.

our GK options are a farce. Martinez is a rookie, and although he hasn't made any real mistakes doesn't mean we won't find out his limitations soon enough
None of them are have proven they should be the arsenal no1. Wenger has basically agreed as Sczceny was still on the bench
today.

talking of goalies and in particular goalies through Wenkers reign including Spunky but excluding Lehmann why is it that our keepers seem to do fuck all but get the ball out of the net,we must have the worst shots against ratio to goals scored against ,it seems every shot that is on target against us actually goes in,i don't fucking get it,y et we can pepper the oppositions goal all day and not score

As overrated as I think he is, I would have still gone in for Valdes.

Valdes is actually a very good keeper and has been unfairly criticised by a lot of people, basically for playing for Barca.Arsenal Till I Die wrote:As overrated as I think he is, I would have still gone in for Valdes.
If we signed him though it would, of course, "kill" Szczesny. Would want crazy money too.

One swallow doesn't make a summer. Martinez realistically will not replace Sczeneny.
Wenger has an appalling record when it comes to AFC keepers: persisted for too long with Seaman, Manninger had a great spell as back up, Wright seemed like a great signing but didn't work out, Remi Shabaan played a handful of games, Almunia was dreadful
back up but bizarrely ended up as no 1 choice... Even Lehmann was a hothead prone to making rash errors.

Absolutely. A club of Arsenal's size and stature simply cannot justify chucking in teenagers/young 20-somethings between the sticks and seeing how they turn out. Even obviously class young keepers like Courtois and de Gea played for a few seasons at a high level before being given a chance as first choice.Supagoon wrote:our GK options are a farce. Dunno Herd; there are some good female players out there but every female goalkeeper I've seen has been shit.Herd wrote:Was as useless as a chocolate teapot yesterday ,we need a world lass goalkeeper , none at the club are good enough !

Arguably the best 'keeper in the league, possibly second to Courtois.Theoperator wrote:In line with signing Pat Jennings I would like Lloris to sign for us- fat chance sadly

And a total fucking farce that we didn't gazump the Dwellers to get him at a very reasonable price. Twice the keeper Szczesny will ever be.Arsenal Till I Die wrote:Arguably the best 'keeper in the league, possibly second to Courtois.Theoperator wrote:In line with signing Pat Jennings I would like Lloris to sign for us- fat chance sadly
Wenger wouldn't know a good keeper if one turned up at his house and kicked his tits in.

Shocking that we didn't even look his way.officepest wrote:And a total fucking farce that we didn't gazump the Dwellers to get him at a very reasonable price. The 'keeper we've been crying out for since Lehmann (04-06).
