Thought I heard on one of the programmes Sanchez won't even be travelling which would be welcome news.

yup. i went to every home game 83-86.

AW is this generations Don Howe - he had title winning talent too - Mariner, woodcock, O'leary, Anderson, lukic, sansom, davis, adam etc etc.

we know how that ended - GG came in and the club was reborn again

Both with underperforming teams, but so different from Howe in some ways, similar in others.

Differences

Howe was known for scrupulous dossiers on opponents.
Fabregas said he was not given much of a briefing on our opponents when he played for us.

Under Howe the players were trained in defence first, to the extent of attacking play perhaps not being trained enough.
The training was based around how to counter the opposition's strengths, too much so, according to Adams.

Similarities

Howe and Wenger both radically changed the players' nutrition when they took over.

Both known for developing younger players.

Was thinking Chambers should play in this as he will be suspended on Saturday, but on reflection I think Chambers should be given a break from football , let him get away from it and clear his head. I think his treatment is bordering on cruelty. This match is irrelevant unless Anderlecht win in Dortmund , cannot see that happening and in the interest of fairness Galatasary cannot qualify for Europa League so result is unimportant.

What did Wenger expect from him? Talent is obviously there, wisdom beyond his years possibly.

But fundamentally he'd played 20-odd senior games in his entire career, all at RB. Before that he was a CM in junior football. Who in their right mind thought he would be able to slot straight in at CB at PL/CL level??? As much as anything else he is still hugely unfamiliar with the role and has picked up about six bookings this season by getting dragged well out of position by wily strikers and then panicking and hauling them down.

He is both first-choice back-up at CB and RB - it's fucking insane.

This is Similar to Dortmund, with the feeling of it being pointless. However, since the AKB'S will clutch at any last straw over Wenger, I hope we get stuffed 4-0.

This is the sort of game where we'll turn up and play like champions. The trouble is that it'll be too late.

Me too. I hate the CL. It should be called the "Anyone Out As Far As Fifth Place League" and be done with it. I hate how Arsene qualifying for this over bloated borefest is somehow presented as success. But, yep, I'll still watch and still hope we win. I'm fucked. :|

The most insignificant fixture we'll ever have, couldn't care less. In fact I wouldn't be adverse to us just not traveling and forfeiting the match.

Arsene must be ousted, slowly eroding my love for the club.

Rest the others.
Fully agree Quartz, things have gone a bit quiet on the Hayden/ Zalalem front, but can they really do much worse.

On the other hand maybe our defence could do with more practice :rubchin:

EDIT- Haydens injured per Quartz, :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

This is Wenger we're talking about, the man has more luck than every lucky charm you can think of added together, he'll put out a half-arsed team and we'll stroll it 3-0 and then the AKBs and the man himself will use that to justify his 'God' like reputation

God please, please let me wrong :banghead:

(Unfortunately i still want us to win even now, i just hope it's a real tough match which we win by pure luck and people can still point out his deficiencies)
