THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I actually think due to the divisions in our fan base we are in many ways getting exactly what we deserve.
I don't want to appear like an arse-licking twat but you are spot on with that assessment mate. The video at Stoke station was uncomfortable to watch but what other outlet do we have, to get an alternative view-point across???

Wenger controls our great Club from top to bottom; he trousers £8million a year (ultimately paid for by us); the media hang on his every word and dance to his tune; none of us can summon print and broadcast media once or twice a week and pontificate about everything but our own failings - so where else do we go??

Wenger is a dismissive, sneering, arrogant spunk trumpet and he deserves any abuse he gets, even if it is "crass and aggressive".

But the funniest thing is - I was watching him on You Tube, getting coated at Stoke Station when my 6 year old son came over and said "What are you watching Dad?" He saw that it was Wenger but his only comment was "Do you reckon he'll get a seat on that Virgin train?"

How do you explain Premier League football to a 6 year old???????????????????????????????????????????????????

You miss my point Mr Angry.

Obviously we do not hold personal press conferences on a weekly basis.

But there is more opportunity than ever before for people to get their point of view across.
There are a number of national journalists who are criticising Wenger, and the pundits on Match of the Day did the same this past weekend.

Stop playing the victim and if you genuinely believe you can get Wenger out of a job, you have ample ways to make your view known and organise a campaign.

Quartz, we used to debate on here but now we only get to vent - venting on here does not bring one iota of public spotlight on le cock and it is only through public displays of anger towards him that we will see any real coverage. All we can do here is hopefully rally the troops to organise the protests and force him out - I have continually said that until the major supporters groups get up off their arses and organise protests, we will continue to see unorchestrated displays of anger from irate frustrated fans and if that abuse gets heated and makes him squirm, then that is fine by me 8)

Augie

Unorchestrated displays of anger are embarrasing and will do nothing to oust Wenger.

Kroenke has a plan and he has ice water in his veins.

Venting has largely taken the place of discussion on here.
People vent, then think that makes them so wonderful and they have set the world to rights but when it actually comes to the crunch to do something then in the main they simply don't put their money or their time where their mouth is.

I did with arsenalfcnotplc, I put time in organising a media campaign, so did Dan_85, Mikey and Woots and a few others but most just sneered from the sidelines.
That was in the 2010 - 2011 season!

I cant understand the logic of those who say Wenger deserves respect. How many times has he talked down to the fans, and talked about not working a day in football. How many times has he failed to accept responsibility for things that are clearly his fault. He has turned into a money grabbing wanker, who is there to make money for the board, and nothing else. He should have left with dignity and respect, but his arrogance means he wont walk away, and so must be removed by force.

Aha - the moral high ground is it?? An old but highly effective tactic.

I'm not a victim my friend, as I stopped going in 2010 after more than 30 years. The victims are the people being fleeced weekly by Wenger and Kroenke. And if you've got a private line to Shearer, Gullit, Savage or Lineker then give me their numbers. I'll calm down sufficiently to ask them to organise some protests against Le Specialist.

And the mere fact that we (fellow Gooners) are arguing, is surely reason to feel animosity towards Le Specialist?

What moral high ground?

Lineker tweets a lot.

Get on Twitter and Tweet to him.
He will see it.

Same with any other current or ex-player on there.

Use all the social media sites you can possibly think of.
Write to the club, over and over again.
Protests, banners, placards, leaflets, radio phone-ins.
Set up your own blog, send links to it to everyone you can think of.
Put a clip of yourself on youtube.
Make a Vine, send it viral.

If you or Muzz think that in the matter of protesting against Wenger you are muted by class background or inability to write degree level English then that is not valid for 2014.

I cannot understand how the media continually criticise him for not buying enough defenders and no proper DM, but yet never mention the fact that he fcuked off to Rome on some charitable kick about on the day that he should have been pushing the hardest to get players in  If a manager has done all his business before the last few days of the transfer window then by all means fcuk off and show what a great human being he is ( ), but to turn his back on his £8m per season commitments with the squad nowhere near complete is at best negligent and at worst absolutely criminal
If a man is given £8m per season to manage then he should be expected to manage properly, but fcuking off to Rome like that isn't managing and he is committing fraud by taking money for not doing the job he is paid to do

That unorchestrated display of anger may have been crass but it's making headlines in pretty much every major newspaper in England and possibly beyond.

It's got people talking, which, on the back of the "Thanks for the memories" banner that also made headlines a week or so back, is adding to the narrative that the fans are turning on Wenger and want change.

Fans need to know it's okay to want Wenger gone, and the more this discontent is visible, the more other fans are likely to join in.

You may be right that it won't help oust Wenger (nothing will probably) but I'd say the banner and the verbal obscenities in Stoke have done more to highlight the discontent than a lifetime on facebook, twitter and Gooner forum would ever achieve.

I also think you need a catalyst before a civilised march or media campaign like arsenalfcnotplc can ever hope to take off, because without widespread anger and frustration you'll never get the numbers to make it work.

So I'm all for these unorchestrated displays of anger, whether it's abuse at Stoke station or booing at the Emirates... it all helps make life uncomfortable for Wenger and the press lap it up.

I couldn't give two fucks what he does on the last day of any window. He's had 9 fucking years to sort the Vieira problem out and wasted them all. One average season from Flamini and Alex Mong don't cut the mustard with me either. It shouldn't come down to a last day dash.....this cretin of a man had all of the previous Summer to address our issues at the time that City, Chavski and United all changed managers and pissed away any chance of stealing a march by dawdling around for weeks on end like the useless old tool that he is
