THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Lot of good points BDB - I think something that was once a strength has become a weakness for example:
'Add to that diets, nutrition, player scouting systems – it has all moved on. Wenger was way, way ahead of his time, streets ahead – many respected names in the game cite him for changing football in this country.'

My issue is that that provided an advantage for a while and now others have caught up or surpassed him. I think his approach has become too scientific! He judges players abilities on information that can be quantified i.e. How fast, passing accuracy, completed dribbles, takles made, strength etc.
I just feel he doesn't appreciate the other aspects of players games particularly leadership & heart. I do feel that if he was offered an 18 year old TA6 or Steve Bould he would turn them down because OPTA stat's showed that they were not in the top 5% of defenders for pace orcould not turn as quick as Winston Reid

I think the Gooner Mag summed it up perfectly writing that the one thing we fans have lost now is hope. For me these last few years is the first period where I have been without hope in 28 years as a ST holder.

I won't abuse him but just want the season to end and him bow out.

Another problem is that every single club now has a worldwide scouting network. Gone are the days when Wenger and Benitez had free reign over hitherto unknown French and Spanish players respectively.

The very best youth prospects no longer come to us so we have to feed off of crumbs, to a degree.

A group featuring: the team that was bottom on Germany, a team that has never won a CL game in it's history and officially the worst club in CL football (just 1 pt and over 16 goals conceded was it).
And still he can only finish 2nd.
Are you even a fucking Arsenal fan? You get no pleasure what so ever from Arsenal

I might be so bold as to say a sp*rs fan would get a similar amount of pleasure :?
You may aswell put me in the same boat, as I seen last night for what it was. A meaningless win against a side with nothing to play for. No PL team would give us even half as much space as they did. For Ramsey's 1st goal, the ox ran straight through the middle without a challenge going in. Lets not pretend last night was some achievement. Also, calling people Spurs fans because they are critical is pathetic IMO.

There's nothing in Ikechukwu's post highlighted above that suggests he's a Spurs fan. Pretty much all of it is true

You mean his posts are telling the truth. If the height of your ambitions is to be satisfied with a win against a team with nothing to play for, in a meaningless game then fine, but some of us can see the bigger picture.

The 200 posts plus many more as Babatunde that are all anti Arsenal adding to this he disappears after we get a win (in a meaningful game) and comes instantly on after a loss or bad performance. Never looks back on past glories in any meaningful way there is always a Wenger/Arsenal dig at the end of it.

I work with virtually all sp*rs fans so I know exactly what *word censored* they can be and how much shit they talk and the post I highlighted on previous page is exactly word for word what they said to me today.

The problem is there is so much negativity on here created by the goings on at Arsenal, some over the top some not, that a sp*rs fan could easily go under the radar and troll and many would go along with it. The hatred for Wenger should never outweigh the love for Arsenal

Agreed - and I have said times many that I have never cheered against us despite many on here (and not Baba / Ike incidentally) openly admitting that they do usually claiming it is for "the greater good" or pushes Wenger a step nearer the exit door. Perhaps those guys should be weeded out rather than someone just showing Wenger's transfer dealings and tactical lack of nous up for what they are.

The fella who posted pictures of Berbatov on here after he scored against us - that's what you call a WUM

Yep - I'm on the lookout for a man who posts one-liners continually backing up Wenger even at our lowest ebb and who never posts any past memories of being a Gooner. Know anyone who fits that description? :D

I reckon you're a Stamford Bridge regular....no wonder you want him to stay.....you sing it often enough !
