Monaco away travel tix etc

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

For people that went out to Anderlecht, were you able to easily find a ticket on the day?

Yes mate it was pure carnage ,but I did come home with a full collection of Lacoste t-shirts jumpers and trainer tops which were the nuts!

Heysel was already a crumbling decrepit ground thousands jibbed in and they sold tickets to Arsenal fans in the Valencia end too just like they did 5 years later .
The terraces were in such bad condition that they were flaking under your feet

With about 30,000 Gooners in town from Tuesday onwards it was always going to be chaos ,and many came over on coaches without hotels or bnb's so there was an all day all night drinking fest around la bourse area although in those days there wasn't a plastic paddy pub but there was a Double DIamond Pub and a Red Dragon too .

Loads of stories including meeting Bob Wilson who was very Nice ,the Arsenal fans rioted big time after the final whistle and it wasn't pleasant..... I then came home dumped me bag and went to Wolves on the friday which we won 2-1 and lastly on the Monday what had been a fantastic season ended on a massive low as we lost 5-0 away to Boro which meant no europe next year and I got kicked to fuck for good measure .

I think I saw missed only 2 out of 67 ??? games we played that season and went to all the home and away in europe Fernabache,Magdeburg which was behind the Iron curtain at the time Gothenburg and of course Juventus not to mention the great Liverpool semi final sagas Hillsborough, villa park x 2 plus Highfield road.
Probably the most eventful season ever as a fan starting with the invasion of Brighton and ending in the gutter in Boro !

I think the photo in the avatar was the following year whilst away to Panithanikos another cracking trip !

Happy Christmas Herd ! Happy days.....I was just a little lad at the time so can remember the games as you've called them but obviously none of the stories. That season was always quoted as the one where we used a ridiculously small number of players for so many games. Typical fucking Arsenal too - beat the untouchable Juve and lose to sodding Valencia.....and over the 3 years lost cup finals to Ipswich and the Shammers, but beat Man U.

Can any other team have lost cup finals to a bigger bunch of shite than Swindon, Ipswich, West Ham, Luton Town and Birmingham City and yet beaten the Mickeys, Man Ure and Chavski?

By the way Herd was the Swindon '69 cup final before 'your day'? My old man is still bitter that they held the Horse of the Year Show on the pitch and has wished Swindon more than 40 years bad luck since :D

The Swindon loss is not the embarrassment it appears because a lot of our squad played even though they had a flu bug in the week before the final.

I was only 11 in 1969 and didn't go but the pitch looked awful for sure ,it was a quagmire and yes was blamed on the horse of the year !
We also lost in that season 79/80 to Swindon in the League cup after a replay 4-3, yours truly ran a coach to the replay but before we set off a few of us paid a visit to a person in Tottenham who had been going out with a mates sister and had given her a slap as he thought he was some big yardie gangster drug dealer .
Catching him as he was about to do his rounds we remonstrated with the itinerant yoof and like Paul on the road to Damascus he saw he error of his ways . Instantly suitably enlightened and by way of compensation for his transgressions we accepted the largest bag of weed I have ever seen before or since . Poor fellow was sobbing uncontrollably such was his Joy in finding the love of the Lord !
So we buy a few packets of Rizla and go onto the coach with santa hats dishing out the green to everyone on board.
Arriving in Swindon about 4 pm the coach driver pulls into a carpark gets out and vomits, basically he's stoned to fuck after inhaling the mass of 2nd hand weed on the coach . Police arrive and ask him to move the coach as its in the wrongs place and he says he cant and they take him off to Hospital . Swindon OB never sussed the weed , the world was a different place then despite the smell which was pungent to say the least ! Driver was our regular one and loved the tips and sundry items he got when the boys went shopping so there was no grassing from him either !!!
Too stoned to care we enter the Pub which is the main home supporters one right outside the ground but the opposite end to ours.
They seemed friendly enough so we started handing out the weed again ,before ye know it the whole pubs stoned out of off their tits and the two sets of supporters are having a roaring time .
Dont remember much of the game except that there were several random pitch invasions by very stoned young men in santa hats doing aeroplane impersonations . We go back to the Pub and ask about the driver to OB and are told he will be back in an hour but that the coach company had booked another driver to take us home but he wouldn't arrive for another hour . Que more drinking and smoking weed with the Swindon mob and a lock in till o200 hours . Got home about 5 am in a state of delirium and still with enough weed to stone a Reggae Sunsplash concert.
After this we started to stop in Swindon anytime we visited Bristol and 2 of the lads ended up marrying Swindon girls after getting lucky in the Brunell rooms
Shit result fucking blinding day and night though ,almost as good as Brighton Away !
