I think those that go to games see a different Welbeck from those that watch on TV.

At games as opposed to on TV one can see better his good off the ball runs (though occasionally cuts in front of Sanchez), his "showing" for the ball and his work rate.

Of course he lacks that bit of sharpness in the shot but I think that can be improved - bring in Ian Wright for extra training.

Difference was that wrighty was an out and out goal poacher - you can train strikers to finish better, but you cannot train them to be in the right place at the right time cos that is pure instinct. For me wellbeck's shooting could improve but that will never make him a 20 goal a season player - off the top of my head I can't think of too many great chances wasted by him and that would concern me even more o's it suggests a guy that is rarely in the right positions for a striker

I think Welbeck takes up the right positions for a striker, and also the right positions to make assists, but there is something a bit off about how he shoots.
He delays a split second too long which gives the keeper a better chance to set himself.

I truly believe though it is something that can be achieved through specialist training; basically extra work shooting at goal over and over again.
I think it is psychological as much as anything physical.
Wright said in interview he was much more concerned with shooting quickly rather than accurately during training because any delay allowed the keeper extra time and could also let a defender make a tackle.

Agree with Augie and that is what is most troubling: he doesn't get himself in goalscoring positions.

Quartz Imo what you see live is essentially exactly the same as on TV. A quick bloke who runs around a lot but rarely gets into really threatening positions and tends to fluff his lines when he does.

For all my criticism of Giroud i also think that we look a better team with him in it than Welbeck.

Welbeck was a panic buy when he realised Giroud was out for months. Even There's Only One said he doubted he would be here permanently if he'd been around instead of swanning off on his latest sabbatical.

An average striker, with an average strike rate who scores against average teams. Nothing to suggest he's going to be anything other than a 12-15 goal a season man

It’s still fairly early days but he doesn’t look anything other than what he was at Utd: bang average.
