THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

As true as that is, I love winning it.

I loved being back in contention for it.

It is a useless game in the grand scheme of things but it is nice.

I would like to see the Shield mean more. The likes of Italy, Germany and Spain (if I'm not mistaken) all have a bit more pride in their versions of the sheild - be it classed as a Super Cup or whathaveyou.

It is also a nice showcase game to show the new players of winning teams. Gilberto made his debut and scored the winner in the Shield win vs Liverpool in 02.

Off topic, I miss Gilberto :(

Asinine comment tbh. Calling the desire to have Wenger replaced "knee jerk" is pathetic and incredibly uninformed. We won the FA Cup last year and every single WOB on here still wanted Wenger out afterwards, hardly a knee jerk reaction to a defeat is it?

It was great that we won the FA Cup and many of us were happy HE won it particularly after Moron-hio's disgraceful comments BUT it is "awareness of the bigger picture" that makes us want him gone because we will never be more than a 4th place, occasional cup team whilst he is in charge.
I think LaughingGooner brillantly encapsulates the problem as it is and has been for years. A contributor who has a different opinion but would prefer to attacke the posters, than produce any of the reasoned thinking that he claims is lacking.

This has been going on on this site for years.

:|
Very true. There have been one or two Wenger defenders on here that are very good posters (afcforever springs to mind) and are capable of having a reasoned and intelligent debate, but the vast majority of pro-Wenger posters have been of the type that tell people to "fuck off and support the chav$".

chesney's dad is spot on :
'Wojciech is often paying for it (the mistakes), and that he really cares. He needs someone who will critically analyse every game with him, but also remain positive.

'Someone should support him but the coaching staff at Arsenal are not doing that, meanwhile the entire defence this season is an embarrassment.'
yup.

As for being funny i guess everyone has different things that they find funny and then as now Baba's "humour" sails close to the abuse mark which is unacceptable whether to an AKB WOB , MFI or the SAS.
I guess I just find it funny that manages to do it without swearing and comes up with these ridiculous one liners. The "Arsenes little helpers" one a couple of years ago springs to mind. I would love to see him stand up and tell the board to remove Wengers dinkle from their mouths though.

The fact that their arent more posters new or old coming here much lately isnt really anything to do with him either. I would love some of the Official/Non Official AFC forum to come here and try and defend Wenger. Im sure that place is full of WUMs, it winds me up just reading some of them constantly defending the man.
Wenger is indefensible in my opinion but i wish we had some more AKB's just to give other opinions as the usual ranting is tiresome
We had one - Red Member (and he was funny too) - and then he got banned

Chesney's dad seems to be as big a w.anker as he is  How can this dickhead publicly slate players that are playing alongside his son week in and week out ? In years gone by no keeper or his old man would publicly any team-mates because TA6, PV4, keown etc would have torn the head off both of them 8) Doing what he has done is a cowardly treacherous act by someone who has no concept of what a team ethos is all about, and if the only way he can defend his son is by having a pop at others, then he is in serious shit

this forum may be stale, but thats because what is there to discuss? 95% of us know we arent going to win anything, we know he club isnt good enough, we KNOW wenger needs to leave, we know he's not going to sign anyone of real significance, we know he will not strengthen our CDM or CBs, we know he will have zero tactics and man management in big games, we know there will be pointless/terrible substitutions at 70 mins, we know the handbrake was on and the team was physically jaded, we know good players will continue to be played out of position, we know our formation will never change even when the players don't fit it, we know wenger can't zip a coat and we know the virtual trophy is all he needs to continue with this pointless shit for another 2 years.

so what is there to debate? its pointless. its sad.
Very true - if the football were good and we were playing at the level we should be - challenging at the top, then there would be less abuse directed at Wenker and more discussion about the team, players, tactics etc but it has all been said countless times with little, if anything changing in 4/5 years :banghead:

I am sadly at the point where I don't even watch streams any more cos it's a waste of 2 hours to watch crap football and end up more frustrated than just finding out the end result.

Wenker is sucking my love of AFC out of me, slowly but surely :(

Yes Chez's dad is spot on saying that our defence is a cluster fuck but he won't win any prizes for stating the bleeding obvious. Unfortunately like most parents he is adopting the approach of "everyone's a bold boy except my little Johnny". So yes the BFG plods around as if he's in concrete boots and yes Kos played like utter dog shit against Southampton but the elephant in the room here poppa Sczeney is that your son is a fucking arrogant mediocre dud keeper who for some unbelievable reason only known to Mr. 30 years is number one choice at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Jesus fucking wept :banghead:

Lies down......

Sums up pretty much how I feel also. While I enjoy reading you guys posts and debate when there's actually something to discuss about, I really feel that everything's said thousands of times already and posting something sensible is hard and even trying is pointless.

However, I have to add that I've enjoyed very much some of the debates here as it has really widened my own views also which has been and still is very narrow.

We know that many stuff have been said countless times before but somehow we still can't help go on saying even though we are tired of repeating and know that things won't change. That's the current sad life of being an Arsenal fan.
