Since when he's reached the dizzy heights of the Ipswich bench - they don't even know if he's a LB or CB. Awaiting confirmation of the £10m bid from There's Only Onemcdowell42 wrote:Just watching BBC and Tyrone mings was let go by Southampton as a youngster cos he was too small,he's now 6ft5

Dinamo Zagreb say Arsene PLC have made 6million offer for Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Marcelo Brozovic - and this sounds like a true wonga signing :

still trying to replace vieira - yup, 6 million for the croation DiabyBrozovic is a tall, rangy playmaker-type but Arsenal see potential in him playing a deeper role.

Parts that worry me most are (a) he still is undervaluing the importance of the DM position and thinks that he can do it on the cheap (b) he still thinks that he can buy players and then convert them to play other positions

The DM position is a specialised position and not one that you can throw a playmaker into an expect it to work

Memo to the akb........buying second rate crap is not considered as strengthening that position

Re: The January Transfer Rumours Thread
I think he will buy one defensive midfielder...but only one, and it may be in the summer.
Diaby, Flamini and Arteta?
I think they will all leave.
He has a lot coming through the ranks...Coquelin currently doing the role, with Hayden, O'Connor, and probably Bielik being developed.
Plus Chambers who can play there, though has a very long way to improve.
So far we have seen Coquelin improving in that role.
The rest of them as long term good quality defensive midfielders...who can say at this point?
But that is not the key point.
I think the key is that Wenger will see it as a well stocked position.

Coquelin will be kept. Id like to think that Arteta will be gently put to sleep like a beloved family pet whilst Flamini will be bludgeoned to death like a badger.
I think one of them will stay, not sure who though. Think that it's curtains for Diaby though.

Coquelin's situation reminds me a lot of the danish dickheads last few years with us - bendtner was sent out on loan a few times to any club that was willing to take him, and this has happened with coquelin too. It should also be noted that the clubs that wanted to take him were not even 2nd or 3rd level clubs co obviously not too many clubs rated him either.
I think that le cock will be absolutely delighted to give coquelin another chance so he can justify his faith in him, but I really dont see him as good enough - the guy is no longer some kid trying to make the breakthrough (he is 24 years old ffs) and if he hasnt been classed as good enough to this point, what has suddenly changed that ? Being the best of a poor lot does not make him good enough imo, and lauding him (and akpom or any of the younger players) up is just a wenker style line of bullshit that tries to deflect away from the necessity to buy now - they might be good enough in a few years but lets not place our faith in unproven players, and lets certainly not sit on our laurels in the hope of reserve players being our salvation

Re: The January Transfer Rumours Thread
Even Alex Mong shined when he played for 'lower' teams like Charlton. Coquelin hasn't even looked that good when out on loan at these 'smaller' clubs! If you don't look that good at 24.......you ain't that good!!
Mind you, he's French so Wonga will give him another 4 year contract to 'prove' himself. We should be bringing another over from Lique 1 or 2 shortly, French football could do with a leetle beet more money!

Augie
Do you think Coquelin is worthy of a squad place?
I think he playing OK.
Not a world beater, but OK, well enough to be in the squad next season with a new three year deal.
Even in the great squads of a decade or so ago we had non-stellar players who could stand in when needed and give a physical perfomance though not a silky skilled one- for example Garde, Grimandi and Vivas.
Coquelin has hardly had a run of games, so it was difficult to "class him" as anything at all.
His loan form was immaterial, he was used as a left winger in Germany.
It is how he is playing now, for us, in one of his three regular positions, that counts.
