As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Your question misses completely the irony of football/life.
Gus was undoubtedly one of the poorer players we've had and I got back to 1967 !!!! but over the years his slippages and occasional moments of glory have taken on an heroic aurora.
When we had the Highbury farewell he got a big cheer as people, if they remembered the Luton Final fiasco, foregave him.
Gus is a cult figure, whose career at Arsenal is coloured largely by the incident in the League Cup Final - you know, the same one where Winterburn missed penalty and Smith and Hayes both missed sitters!
Watch the replays carefully and you will see Mark Stein trip Gus as he goes to clear the ball. I've always felt the lad was badly done to. He was even sent off in a pre-season match in Miami against Independiente when the ref mistook him for David Rocastle (and he had to serve the ban!)
I think Eboue looks like Pele in comparison to Gus. Probably the poorest player in my lifetime, worse than Hillier and Cygan. Prompted GG to buy Bould to give us cover, may be his later obsession with Centre Halves was born from his experiences with Gus.
He must have a cult status as three board members, including me have deemed him noteworthy enough to name themselves after.
I dunno whether wanker is fair - after all Ashley Cole - a much better player than Gus is a wanker. Did Gus Caesar (correct spelling folks - sorry to be anal), ever think he was Pele?
If so he did deserve to be called a wanker - being shit is very unfortunate but forgivable.

If you remember Gus, then you must remember McGoldrick - now he is the worst player I've ever seen at Arsenal. Cygan and Hillier aren't even close - what about Mendez and Malz? Or even Diawara?
i know its sad but my main memory of Eddie mcgoldrick was a cracking goal in the uefa cup against liege ( i think ) when arsenal won 7-1 ,,
as for mr caesar he just wasnt good enough for the arsenal and ended up playing for a lot of lower league teams

My main memory is of him being utter shit, and then saying he wouldn't spit on Arsenal supporters if they were on fire. What a *word censored*.
You're right of course, Gus wasn't good enough ultimately, but I still think he was unlucky too.
