THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If them and city hadn't spent such ridiculous amount of money, they would never be ahead of us right now. ie, we'd actually be on course for a league title. My point is, blame the way football has become, it's not wengers fault.
It is not about money, we are not a non-league club with an annual transfer budget of £50,000.

It is about how we have spent the money we have spent.
It is about tactics.
It is about how we train.
It is about our injury and rehabilitation records.
But we are also not owned by a man willing to spend over a billion pounds on us.

We have spent money on some great players for example Arshavin. Fantastic player when he came, so much potential. However, he went completely of the boil, didn't look interested and got really lazy. How was our manager to know his attitude stank so badly? He didn't know him personally. He saw a great player, bought him and the player let him down badly. This is the best example I could think of this happening, but there are plenty others I could bring up, where it's the player who should be blamed, and not wenger. The same thing looks to be happening to ozil.

And what has our injury record got to do with wenger?

I'm sorry but you are clearly a WUM and barely worth responding to.

Yes Arshavin was a great player but was wasted and played out of position by Wenger so he just gave up.
It is the manager's job to keep players motivated.

Yes Ozil was a great player. Same problem here plus Wenger plays him until he gets injured You havent mentioned Sanchez but the same is now happening to him. Seen what the common link is yet - Wenger. Funny how top players got to other clubs and perform. At Arsenal they come and are successful to start with then drop away through exhaustion/injury. I am sick of it and this never ending cycle keeps getting repeated because weak pathetic characters like yourself keep propping up a faded regime.

Arshavin and Ozil are everything got to do with Wenger He is the manager he signed quality and preceded to destroy it with stubbornness. Arshavin to an average fan like me was a number 10 , he wasn't a workhorse, but because like Ozil and Podolski he wasn't imitating Ryan Shawcross or John Terry shouting and "wearing his heart on his sleeve" he was deemed useless. Don't know what your point is CloakedGooner..or who you are without the Cloak. There are 8 million reasons why everything playerwise at arsenal FC is Wenger's responsibility and by extension fault.

Not sure about cloaked gooner, could be a cloaked spud.
cloaked = clandestine, gooner = goner (sums up Spurs trophy chances) + a 0, Spurs last 2 scores.
You can't fool me.

Our wage bill is currently higher than Chelsea’s. The financial constraints argument doesn’t wash any more.

As a rule I don't bite when a wum starts fishing but on this occasion I will take the bait - financial constraints suggests that it is only defeats to the wealthy citeeh and chav teams that are stopping us winning trophies, but the reality is that losing to the likes of stoke/hull/Swansea/Anderlecht/Bradford/Blackburn etc has nothing to do with money and everything to do with ineptitude and a total lack of tactical acumen and motivational skills
It should also be noted that Dortmund and ath madrids European performances shows that a lack of wealth does not render a team impotent
And the examples of Dortmund and atletico are extraordinary examples of success. This is VERY rare in today's game.
It's even rarer and in fact unheard of for a manager to go 8 yrs without winning anything and get away with it.

Just to move away from cloakedWUM for a minute. I'm trying to work out which comment was more idiotic from Wenger today. He firstly claims that we are aiming to finish 2nd, and secondly that "mertesackers contribution to the team has been excellent". :banghead:

I think Wonga sniffs glue, he comes out with the most outrageous statements sometimes WTF is he on, clearly lost the plot senile old twat "mertesacker" is a liability and should not play in the first team again unless we have nobody and I mean nobody to play in that position.

From Arsenal.com
“We are all here to serve the club and rise above our own individual interests,” Wenger said.

Glad YOU said that Arsene, can we hold you to that when judging you in May..?. methinks Per will be back tomorrow..

It's time someone stood up for a man who's given so much to the club. 3 league titles, and 5 FA cups says it all, yet that's not good enough for some of the spoilt glory hunters on this site? It makes me sick to read some of the bile on here. The man is a purist, who has the right footballing idea. He even got us to the champions league final. Yeah, results haven't been great recently, but HE NEEDS TIME! Wait until the stadium is paid off at least!!!

After the Cup win last season you were all like "Wenger in!" Now we lose to Monaco and it's all "Wenger out!" :blah: We should be greatful we still have him, not hound him out the door like some scared rabbit. :cussing:
If that was the case, why would we have hung around as Arsenal supporters over the past decade when it would have been more enjoyable and profitable to follow United, City or Chelsea in pursuit of that 'glory'? :rubchin: :rubchin:

He claimed once that Per was 'the glue that holds his defence together' does that opinion still hold?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... er-1841797
He also said 12 months ago that Sanogo was going to be the new Nicolas Anelka.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news ... las-anelka
18 months back he claimed Bendtner can be "unstoppable"
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... le-2297720
A few years before he thought Santos was a decent defender
http://talksport.com/sports-news/footba ... ople-think
Forgive me if I regard his views on players qualities with a little bit scepticism.
