As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Agreed, it seems to happen a lot, and the excuse is that it means others can come foreward if they have had the same happen. However there are some nutters who do come foreward and waste the polices time. I am not sure that the police genuinely have real grounds for proving its really of use rather than causing furthur misery or even suicide for some people.
Worst one recently has been with Cliff Richard, and the BBC helicopter.
PS to the Mods, this thread may need renaming for "alleged" under age sex

Edited by Chippy. Only post stuff you are willing to stand in court and defend.

Seems unfair that his name can be so readily available to the media at a time when he is just being questioned. he is guilty by media and certainly by social media now... Sunderland were quick to suspend also..maybe they know something more than we do..

Maybe, maybe not. Sunderland had to take a stand. They wouldn't want to publicly stand by and do nothing, in light of the whole Ched Evans thing at Sheffield United.
Speaking as an ex copper I think it is disgraceful that his arrest has been publicized in any way.
The only people that are officially party to this prior to his being charged are the arresting officer, the custody sergeant, the case officer and his brief. Outside of those people nobody should know about it. So if this has leaked from any of them, and I were in his position, I would be suing them for professional misconduct. I don't think they would give out the details for fear of this happening.
That is what makes me think that the story has been released by her side. If that's the case I firmly believe that she should be named too and her photograph circulated to the local hostelries to prevent her going in any more of them whilst underage.
If she was in a club I would argue that he had reasonable grounds to believe that she was of legal age.

DING DING DING we have a winner!
What probably happened, he met her at an 18+ club, she was smitten with getting chatted up by a footballer and lied about her age.

Ched Evans was a convicted rapist (rightly or wrongly is another matter) so they had to distance themselves from him. This fella has not been convicted of anything, in fact he hasn't even been charged yet, so what ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I think Sunderland have been a bit quick to suspend him myself.

Its a sensible move from SAFC to be honest, it limits our exposure as a club and lets him focus on clearing his name. Hes our best player so, cynical though it sounds, behind the scenes the club will be giving him all the support they can. Im on my way to hull now and it feels odd, we all want to support our player but all we can do is wait for the police to gather their evidence. Theres a load of stuff on twitter that i heard rumour of last night but it doesnt prove one way or the other, its one sided and could be fabricated or could mean nothing, people need to be very careful what they say and we'll see what police discover.

I refer to my prior point of trial by media.
The fact that people seem to believe the moment you are arrested means you are guilty really makes situations like this ten times worse. It doesn't seem to matter whether or not you're charged with a crime, once you have been arrested the stigma is there. Sunderland either know more at this time or they have tried to distance themselves away from an ugly situation - underage sex scandals dominate the press lately.
