THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

From Arsenal .com...Manager looks forward to pre season tour.

Wenger - We can show we respect Asia

Respect Asia but not Monaco in first leg.. Asian tour ticks all boxes for Arsenal PLC.. innocent fans who still view Wenger as God, lots spent on merchandise, players revered for just being there... no pressure to win or compete, no awkward questions about ambition.

"The away goals rule should count after extra time rather than full-time" Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

It still won't matter when we have a manager who CANNOT Manage - who is long passed his sell-by date.

Would agree that after extra time makes more sense, but after watching Monaco on Tuesday I think the bigger issue is they won 3-1 at The Emirates..They are a very average team and there are seven clubs across Europe hoping that they get them in the quarter final draw.

and the senile old duffer says 'Apart from Barcelona there is no superior team in Europe at the moment'..........

I think Bayern Munich for one may have something to say about that you utter fuckwitted excuse for a retard!

11 points clear in their domestic league
Just beat a very good Shakthar team 7-0 to qualify for the quarter finals of the CL YET AGAIN.....after being semi-finalists last year, and finalists the previous 3 years....

I would say Bayern are THE team to beat in Europe but Wonga doesn't even rate them......still, I haven't been in football for 30 years so know nothing obviously.

there is a headline on .com which says "Wenger - my take on the title race"

well here is my take on it - WE ARE NOT IN IT. One reason - because our clueless manager failed to prepare properly for the season ahead as he was too busy playing beach football in Brazil :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Of the teams left in the CL, these are the ones superior to Arsenal:

Bayern
Real Madrid
Barca
Porto
Monaco (we have proof)
Juventus
PSG
Atletico

So basically, that's all 8 teams in the QFs. Monaco made fools of Wenker in North London, and Porto have far better players, I would comfortably back them to beat Arsenal over 2 legs. As for all the other teams, they all have far superior managers, put simply.

More from Le Mug in the Guardian:

"Wenger seemed to suggest that it was an unfair quirk that sides who finish third have the opportunity to prolong their European seasons, while teams like his own are finished when they lose"

Curiously enough, Wenker seems to have a problem with sides being rewarded for finishing 3rd.
Yet, he seems to have no issue with sides being rewarded and given another opportunity in Europe for finishing 4th :rubchin:

What. A. C***.

I disagree, it should that if the tie goes to extra time then slate is wiped clean and no away goals rule. Both teams their 90 mins and if they can't take advantage then extra time is pretty much a shoot out

Who would have thought that a manager who used to talk sense in the past has turned into the dumbest manager one has ever seen. It's so fucking embarrassing.

I don't see how away goals only counting after extra time would be remotely fair, it gives one team an extra 30 minutes to get another goal which the other didnt have in the first leg.

They either count after 90 minutes or not at all.

Next he will say if the gama is all square after 180 minutes the coach who has spent the most time sitting on the bench will win the game.
Or the coach who has done the most bitching at the 4th official.
FFS the man will say literally anything other than "I made a mistake".
