Thought we could have a new thread recalling players who have played for our forthcoming opponents as something a little different to discuss / reminisce about.
1 - Ray Kennedy
Must be one of the most decorated players in the game - won the Fairs Cup, scoring our vital away goal in the 3-1 1st leg loss v Anderlect, FA Cup and League in 1971 with Arsenal, notching the title winner at the Lane, before joining Liverpool (as a midfielder I think) and playing a vital role in their trophy winning haul in the late 70's .
Very sadly suffered from Parkinson's disease and had to sell his medals and caps to raise funds to help pay for treatment
(this is where the PFA or FA should be stepping in with a levy on transfer fee's 0.5 % to help old footballers who were not paid the millions that todays pampered pussies are)
2 - Michael Thomas
Came up through the ranks, was also an England schoolboy player, who initially started his career as a fullback, George realised his engine was suited to a midfield role and scored what is likely to be the most famous Arsenal goal ever with the "up for grabs now" winner at Anfield on 26th May 1989. Was also part of the 1991 title team
Left two later and scored in Liverpool's FA Cup win v Sunderland in 1992, didn't ever really kick on with his career.
3- Jimmy Carter
played for both teams.
Scored an "equalizer" in our infamous FA Cup defeat v Wrexham which was ruled out for no reason whatsoever.
Others to add ?

Kolo Toure and Jermaine Pennant are others, but I don't really have much to say about them. Can barely even recall Pennant at Liverpool.

ray kennedy's story is very sad. didn't get the recognition he deserved and was one of england's best young talents in the early seventies. hope he is doing ok
Re: Players who played for Arsenal and Liverpool
Soon to be added to the list: Raheem Sterling.

My old man often told me about the time he had been offered trials for the Arsenal back in 71, but never went because "he was 21 and Ray Kennedy was already in the first team at 19",Henry Norris 1913 wrote:ray kennedy's story is very sad. didn't get the recognition he deserved and was one of england's best young talents in the early seventies. hope he is doing ok

Ray Kennedy was the most inexperienced player in our team when I first started goingrobbo10 wrote:My old man often told me about the time he had been offered trials for the Arsenal back in 71, but never went because "he was 21 and Ray Kennedy was already in the first team at 19",Henry Norris 1913 wrote:ray kennedy's story is very sad. didn't get the recognition he deserved and was one of england's best young talents in the early seventies. hope he is doing okI feel Kennedy is one of the Arsenal players often overlooked as an Arsenal legend but I'm sure the people old enough to have watched him know different,I know my old man rated him big-time.
Him and radford formed a fantastic partnership
Kennedy was strong in the air either for knockdowns or powering headers in
One of the last games he played for us was an Easter Saturday game at chelsea in 1974
I was 10 and taken by my mums younger brother ie my uncle who was only 16 himself
My first trip to Stamford bridge and an eye opener
You needed binoculars to see the pitch
It was a building site
We were in the shed as well
I don't remember there being segregation in these days
Kennedy headed in a Eddie Kelly cross
Chelsea equalized but we scored 2 quick goals to win it
Radford scored and then Kennedy had a one on one with the keeper but stuck a leg out and got there 1st
I was shitting myself as chelsea fans sang about having us surrounded but it seemed as though a few of the arsenal faces appeared and we got out in one peice
Was gutted when he went to liverpool and he always got a good reception whenever he came back
Puts to shame much of the younger breed who see booing an ex as the general currency
Once it was reserved for the likes of frank stapleton
Funny enough Stapleton was similar to Kennedy the way he could hang in the air
God bless ray
Long may he live
