I have to agree with this. I don't know if it is this forum or the internet in general, but the hatred of Wenger here certainly generates much more posts on this site than when we do well. I know that I am probably guilty of it as well, however, I do see credit when it is due and Wenger should be getting some for the run we are on just like he received the abuse when he didn't address the shortcomings earlier this season.Swifty wrote:Traveling quite well aren't we - must be demoralising for many.....
Some may argue about our points total being the same as last year and for me, I would say that if that same points total last year amounted in us in second spot, many would have taken it. Sure, it was lucky that Coquelin has been a revelation since his unexpected addition to the squad, but it would have been Wenger that gambled on him playing there (of course, some may say forced, but it isn't ever that simple). Had Coquelin been playing there in the beginning of the season when we had our Centreback crisis, he would have protected the defense and some of our poor results may have different.
I probably posted this before, but I would like to see Wenger go out and buy another defensive midfielder, but I suspect that we may see Arteta sign on for another year while waiting on Bielik. Admit it, it sounds like something Wenger would do (and probably will). Also, I'd like to see Walcott sold and us going out and buying a replacement for him. However, there is also Gnarby coming through and again, this sounds like something Wenger would do. However, with his comments about adding 15 goals more, I think that we may see a bigger signing coming in. So may bet is signing Arteta for another year and a big signing up top with Walcott on his way out. Arteta and Coquelin wouldn't be the most ideal, but a lot better than Arteta/Flamini.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Another DM would be welcome and doesn't need to kill Coquelin's career as Wenger would see it.
Strength in depth in that position would be tremendous and to be honest it would be a good option for us to play with two deeper-lying midfielders. Plenty of very good (especially international) teams have deployed two more defensive midfielders to good effect, and it would provide more cover and thereby more freedom for the attacking four, rather than asking the likes of Ozil, Podolski etc to spend half their time tracking back away from home. Coquelin's distribution looks pretty good (certainly better than a hacker like Flamini) and another good ball-playing DM in the side would give us a lot of cover and versatility.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
Of all the positions on the park where you need cover its DM, its a very physical area obviously, and sendings off or suspension as well as injury (If the DMs putting his heart in, as Coq does) will happen.
Arteta is not good enough now though would perhaps provide cover, we deffo need another, petit and Viera style. Cant see how Wengers been so blinkered in this area of the pitch for so long. Its very evident that Coqs (Appropriate compared to Famster
) physicality has transferred through the team, just as Sanchez workrate (To a point
) has.
In fairness he must have seen Coq as a feature at some point, else like Afobe (Now 11 in 17 games for Wolves, 21 for the season) he would have gotten rid.

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
I think he's always been pretty keen on Coq. If you look at all the other players that came through in the Carling Cup at the same time, most have been moved on now but he kept him for some reason.
I agree that you need cover here because of the risk of injuries and suspensions. Look how we suffered when Gilberto got that long term back injury. The team just wasn't the same without him. it just goes to show what a key role that position is in today's game.
Of course, don't forget that Diaby will be back soon.....................he'll be like a new signing

Re: THE WENGER THREAD
So I had to see what all the fuss was about, so I log on to see joyous celebrations. Huzzah! Are we winning the league? Oh yeah that's right. We're doing what Wenger does when the pressure is off: putting together a "winning run" that will see us win a new virtual trophy!
we are not winning the league, we were out of the title race in November, worst ever start to a season and worst of all, humiliated by wee Monaco over 2 legs
Gazidis is correct that it's not been good enough this year but then I see how joyous and easily pleased our fans are. Excited cos we may get 2nd place, in a piss-poor league where Citeh have lost it and Manu have a guy new to English football (who is just 1 pts behind Wenger). It's been a mediocre season but hey hey...we beat Burnley...and Palace...and Newcastle...Liverpool is the only good team we beat in this "run". And let's face facts: this "run" is winning us?
Oh yeah. Nothing
